Manmohan to make announcements on longstanding issues with Bangladesh

Yes, some "shekels" will work wonders with that lot. The best "diplomacy" that there can be. Guaranteed success.

huhuhu "shekels".

You seem to know Bangladesh politics pretty well

Money talks for Bangladeshi pooliticians.

Here we can see that BD govt is ready to give a 100-acre land where 50 Indian companies will be able to run their production. An Indian industry zone will be establish there. My question is will India give us any land to build any BD factory inside NE ever; suppose we want to establish garment factories there and that will help the economy of NE and will create new jobs for Indians? I do not think so.

Moreover, Sumangonj is a very beautiful area, I am afraid of heavy industries here which will cause serious environment pollution.

WHY THE HELL WOULDN'T WE? You would be creating jobs here. Boosting trade and developing infrastructure. But ask yourself. Is there one single bangla company that can compete with the local indian ones? Coz if there was one, they'd have already done that.

Industries cause pollution even in a bog!

So, what's new and earthshaking about this discovery of yours?

ask him where he gets his basic daily need from?

Like his soap, toothpaste, detergents, etc?

One should visit the Kolkata airport and see what the Bangaldeshis carry back home!

Mr. TTT, you are still living in those wonder days when you left this country... Sorry to burst your bubble, plate had just turned around since long and BD detergent and soaps are now finding Indian market.

I had assignments in Bangladesh, especially during the BNP rule; on behalf of some third-party (not Indian) interests. My principals had some interest in attempting to clean up some of the transportation/logistical quagmire in Bangladesh. The blatant mismanagement eventually scared them off.

But I have very fond memories of people there, who shared many things with me. Since my connection to Bangladeshis goes back a long way, including with participants in the "Mukti-juddho"; personally I felt very disappointed when the project was unsuccessfully concluded. But that's life.

p.s. yes, money talks with BD politicos (I know that), but it talks as much with many politicians in the SA region. So I will not single out BD politicians alone.

Read the post again. !!

That is why I gave the example of a garment factory (not any other industry) by Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in NE, which will only export its products in Europe as like NANO will be exported in Europe (as we are hearing the fuss). So we won't have to compete with any Indian company there to sell our garment products in India. No selling in India, no question of competition with local companies there. We will just use Indian hilly lands, cut the hills and trees, use Indian labors, and electricity/Gas/coal. And the pollution will be out side our border. ho ho what a great fun! We will create jobs there and facilitate the economy of NE, will India agree?

@ thread

I am not sure, but I assume, hilly lands are chosen by Indians because they will get that govt hilly land from GOB at cheap rate. I mean no accountability by GOB to the local people as those are govt property. In that case we will have to monitor whether GOB is giving govt hilly land to India at cheap rate or not. And if India try for flat land then they have to buy that from local people at very higher rate, if local people will agree to sell their land.

Though I always care for environment (once my signature was "Go Green") I would rather like our industry set up by ourselves, but not by India. In long run, Indians will rant that we have made the industrial structure in BD, you can do that by yourself. Indians already take a lot of vabsssssssssss with us, so no further scope should be given.
Indian states will fall over each other to give you land (of course the facilitation fee and all) if you have a good project.
Most CMs like to show it off as achievement.
However that is the easiest part. The bigger hurdles will be
1. Environment clerance
2. Local opposition for land acquisition

Hence you will face the same issues that Indian companies face everyday. All foreign companies face the same problem.
Some companies with ethics face more problems because they dont want to bribe.

I would prefer Indian companies set factories in India, the flight of capital from India is a matter of worry.
In addition to that FDI is definitely welcome, be it bangladeshi or nepali.

Garment factory in NE will be economically unviable from day 1. How will it compete with bangladeshi factory?

Why should every constructive and positive article or thread get sacrificed to some person's hate towards India or the need to show sarcasm?
"Immature" is the word I am looking for.
