Maybe they shouldn't send a former CoAS known to speak his mind to the Pakistani HC, just days after major attacks in Kashmir. I don't know what sort of a diplomat he is with others but Pakistan & he should be kept as far apart as possible.

It is because we have not had any hard nosed realpolitik that we have not been able to move forward. I think you will agree that it is insanity to keep doing the same things over and over again and expect a different result. India and Pakistan has been doing this same crazy dance for 3 generations now and things have only gotten worse. Actually I wasn't very clear what his disgust was about- going to the Pakistan HC or the press coverage almost suggesting that those going were traitors. More likely also that trying to be smart with your tweets can get you into trouble not anticipated.

I have enormous respect for Mani Shankar Aiyar; from what I've heard him say or read what hes written hes a staunch Indian Nationalist who believes in India - what it stands for and what course of action the Congress party took in the years leading up to '47. But at the same time he doesn't let his Nationalism be defined in such a parochial manner that it revolves around 'Hating Pakistan'. Numerous times I've heard him reiterate India's point of view but be open to listening to ours with patience and without the self-righteous smugness that most jingoists - on both sides - display.

He neither rationalizes India's mistakes nor demonizes Pakistan because of our mistakes. He doesn't take out a weighing scale whenever an Indo-Pak discussion is touched upon to weigh the mistakes of each other to decide whether India has one up on Pakistan or not.

In short - Hes the kind of South Asian who would make this region a better place. If there more Pakistanis and Indians like him our issues would've been resolved long ago and you might be having lunch in Lahore while I could be having dinner in Srinagar !

I have met many Pakistanis living in some countries where we go for shooting programmes. Have even worked with a few Pakistani-origin Canadians, Brits, Australians etc who happened to be coordinating work from other set of teams.

I am sure your hospitality for guests is world renowned as Aiyar puts it here. But he's simply comparing oranges to cabbages. Individual hospitality is very very different from the way a country interacts with the world.

A simple example; during the haydays of cold war, US had come to blows with us in the 70s. But still many Indians would migrate to the USA as individuals.


Just for your knowledge, people like Aiyar have no honor. They are supporting you right now for fame and benefit. If tomorrow they see fame and benefit from ordering a war on your or massacre against your community, they will do it equally bad.

These people have no stand or dignity. They will kill anyone attack anyone for their money, fame and control.
