The ACV-300 was designed by the Turkish defense company FNSS and DefTech from Indonesia based on the ACV-15, an amphibious tracked armored combat vehicle. Malaysia ordered 267 ACV-15 in different versions in 2000, all of which have been delivered.

In the Malaysian army, the ACV-300 in IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) version is fitted with a one-man Sharpshooter turret armed with one 25mm automatic cannon. Citing information from Defense Studies, the modernization of the ACV-300 could include a new weapon system and a new armor package.

Currently, the armor of the ACV-300 provides protection against 14.5mm armor-piercing rounds. In option, the vehicle can be fitted with add-on armor kits and internal spall liners to provide protection against 30mm ballistic rounds and rocket-propelled grenades such as the RPG-7 fitted with High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) rounds.

The Sharpshooter is a one-man stabilized turret that can be armed with different types of weapon systems dual weapon system including a rapid-firing M242 Bushmaster 25 mm cannon, or 40 mm grenade launcher, or 12.7 mm machine gun, along with a coaxially mounted 7.62 mm machine gun. These weapons are mechanically linked to a gunner’s day/night sighting system incorporating a Thermal Imager and Laser Rangefinder. The turret is fitted with an all-electrical drive system, which incorporates a 2 axis stabilization for firing on the move.
