In a video posted on social media a few hours ago, Ali Akbar announced that he had lost faith in the religion (Islam). Now, he and his wife are set to become Hindus. He took to her social media page and said, “I am not a Muslim from today onwards. I am an Indian," the filmmaker also slammed those who put smiley and insensitive emojis below the news reports on the death of General Rawat. Akbar also mentioned that he can't stand “anti-nationals"




Akbar, 58 said he determined to quit Islam after debating the matter with his wife. “I am throwing away the clothes I was born with," the filmmaker said. Ali Akbar further said that he will be known as Ram Singh from now on. “Ramasimhan is someone who was massacred while sticking to the culture of Kerala. Hereafter, Ali Akbar will be called Ram Singh. That’s the best name,” he said.

Akbar is a popular filmmaker in Kerala, directed more than 20 films and received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Debut Director in 1988. Currently, he is working on a film ‘1921; Puzha Muthal Puzha Varey’, based on the Malabar revolution and the massacre. Ali Akbar was earlier the state committee associate of the BJP and quit the position following conflicts with the party leadership.

What I have realised is more number of muslims are coming out in open and criticising or leaving islam than ever before ...thanks to internet...
there are more than a dozen ex muslim channels operating from india...

Surely there must be many Muslims even in Muslim Countries like Pakistan that no longer believe in Islam. But then in a Muslim country, coming out as a disbeliever would mean social ostracization or accused of blasphemy or death sentence.

Even the Mullahs so called preachers of Islam are caught indulging in gay acts which speaks volume about their belief in Islam. But such is the fear of Islam that nobody can come out and publicly denounce it in a Muslim coi untry.

I knew an adult many years ago when I was a kid who said he stopped believing in Islam and had serious issues. He used to get mad whenever Islam was mentioned and hated to pray. Nothing happened to him. Years later he was a believer and praying.

Stop dissing as well as promoting cases of religious conversion. Religion is a personal matter and should remain like that. This is not the first time anyone converted to any religion and won't be the last. I don't think anyone ever said to someone leaving his religion - "Hey, good job mate. You are now in better hands. I am still stuck".

The side that loses a follower will always be bitter and the side which gains will always gloat. It is pathetic but that's how it is. In case of famous people we can speculate what their reasons might have been, but the fact is that many ordinary folks convert without this much public scrutiny of their actions and that is how it should be.

Can we claim that all conversions happened because people found a better path? Conversions have usually followed invasions, trade, cultural domination, financial incentives or simply because everyone else was doing it. None of these are very godly reasons.

There are almost 2 billion Muslims in the world now

We have the youngest median age of any major faith, in prime birth giving age


The Muslim population through birth and conversion to Islam is going to grow and grow fast across the world, across this century

Some villages in Pakistan have seen strong Cristian conversions and Islam is also converting people in the west
So like it's one of those things that happens

The conversion in villages were pre partition and were mostly lower caste Hindus or Masabis.
