'Make Sanskrit or any classical language mandatory in schools'

@uparyupari
where is the translation for my previous post??..I know you are a master in Sanskrit,so definitely you could easily translate any Indian languages by knowing Sanskrit, mother of ALL Indian languages..

. .
Are you blind and dumb ?

I am not denying the presence of Sanskrit in SI languages like modern form of telegu,Kannada,Malayalam,Tulu,Tamil but there are dozens of other SI languages of minimal Sanskrit influence like kuruba, kota, toda, padugar Moli etc and these are the remaining SI languages(these are independent languages, not dialects),which still retains the charms and essence of ANCIENT Dravidian/SI features, original culture of SI.
by simply knowing Sanskrit will hardly give you any understanding about ancient culture of SI or its languages..

Knowledge of mathematics will not give you knowledge of calculus. But it does provide a foundation for learning higher mathematics. Same is true for Sanskrit, its a root language which defines our language, culture, society and values.

Sanskrit is not only Indians religious language but even language of our ancestors.

No need for me to translate the "artha".

Its a Red Herring, also known as "beside the point, misdirection, changing the subject, false emphasis, the Chewbacca defense, irrelevant conclusion, irrelevant thesis, smokescreen, clouding the issue, ignorance of refutation, judgmental language.

This form of Logical Fallacy seems to be your favourite since you repeatedly employ it. It only shows how shallow your argument is, how shallow your understanding is. Alternatively it also shows how deep you bigotry is.

.
I'm sure the practical benefits of learning Sanskrit are superb. I learnt Sanskrit for 4 years in school---not once have I had to use it after that. Instead of wasting time on RSS ideology fuelled nonsense, we shold promote vocational and practical stuff-- people need jobs now, not egos.

Whatever I studied during my bunch of qualifications, anything is hardly useful. You are such a person who does not understand the importance of literature and language. They shape your character. They create a better understanding of Human values and give better understanding and purpose of human life.

why should we need to learn Sanskrit?..it's not my ancestors language nor have any religious significance for us..my ancestors(Nasrani Christians) spoke 'Malayala Thamozhi(a variant of tamil) upto mid 19 th century, which had only negligible Sanskrit influence,it was the language of vast majority of keralites..but after the British and ruling elites actively promoted heavily Sanskritized 'Grandha basha',(language used by namboodiri brahmins and some caste Hindus, which had 90% Sanskrit vocabulary)in schools and later got mixed to form the present Malayalam language...
I am not against learning Sanskrit, its just another Indian language for us..no special affection or consideration.

.
Bullshit Sanghi agenda. What is the practical use of Sanskrit in modern day and age? I learned sanskrit for four years in school and till date I could not find its use. It can only land you a job as a sanskrit teacher in school, a sanskrit news reader in Doordarshan (which noone listens). At best you can become a pundit ji (provided you are a brahmin)

I am a South Indian and dont understand the logic of some people who say that it can help us in understanding Indian languages. Its all BS. I am sorry to say but its not a living language.

Best way forward is to keep it as an optional subject just like it ever was. Those who think highly of Sanskrit can enroll themselves.

Again your position against Sanskrit as a extreme minority is irrelevant. We are talking about the vast majority :coffee:

Agattiyam is the oldest work in tamil which was written around 300-350 BC. This was written in Sangam era .

Agattiyam was written by Agasthiyar. Agasthiyar is one of the Saptha Rishis mentioned in the vedas. He is also the author of Agathiya Samhita (Written in sanskrit). Aga means Mountian and Asthi means Thrower (Best example is Brahma Asthram in Mahabaratha)

Now the oldest author of Tamil is also the author of a sanskrit work and also has a Sanskrit Name. He is believed to be sent by Lord Shiva , Who is also been described in Rudram and Chamakam in the vedas.

So he is a Vedic Sage who travelled south. Moreover Comparison of Ayurveda and Siddha medicine can solve this doubt because Siddha has been heavily borrowed from Ayurveda.

So your fig leaf of hiding behind tamil heritage does not buy you any points.

We already have 3 languages in schools-Malayalam,English and Hindi,Malayalam itself a classical language so there is no need to add more..Sanskrit is an optional subject for those who wants to learn it..same for Arabic..
matte,Malayalam li bejaan sanskruta padagalu balasteeve, sanskruta alpa swalpa arta aagutte, separate aagi kaliyo bekilla..

Now you have shifted goal post again and are now claiming that sanskrit is not required since malayalam is a classical language.

But fact is malayalam itself is 60% sanskrit. So learning sanskrit will only bring clarity to those trying to learn and understand malayalam.

There is no south-north divide in learning sanskrit. Sanskrit is a true unifier between the north and south. Only those who wants to create an artificial divide oppose sanskrit. Usually inspired by Religious bigotry and divide.

Sanskrit will eliminate such artificial divide. That is its true strength. A tool for nation building.

I too am a south Indian so your claim of being a south India is meaningless.

that's literal Malayalam, not the one that we are using in our daily life...literal Malayalam tends to have more vocabulary from Sanskrit than colloquial dialects..
there are far more loan words from Persian/Arabic in Malabar dialects of Malayalam than from Sanskrit..that doesn't means that they are all originated from Arabic or Persian languages..for eg.
lit/Sanskritized Mal-Samudrathill dharaalam malsyamkal undu(samudradalli tumba meenugal ive);samudra(sea),daraala(many),malsya(fish) are of Sanskrit orgin..90% Sanskrit elements..
Col /pure mal-kadalill othiri meenukal undu, kadal(sea),othiri(many),meen(fish) all are of Dravidian orgin..100% Dravidian elements,Col.Malayalam have more Dravidian elements than Sanskrit..you can't do much with your Sanskrit knowledge while learning Malayalam..people may laugh at you,if you speak Sanskritized Malayalam in public..

Maybe the riff raffs on the road will laugh when you speak sanskrized malayalam, most people will consider you cultured and refined.

Same is true for people speaking pig english and refined english. The riff raffs will laugh, while the educated will appreciate.

As usual you are wrong, let me disect your "davidian " malayalam.

" kadalill othiri meenukal undu "

othiri= comes from uccaya in sanskrit which means plenty.

Meenu = also Sanskrit word for Fish. Heard of Meena Rashi ? (Pisces - zodiac) , Meenakshi = Meen (fish), akshi (eyes) eyes like fish (name) Both are sanskrit words.

Undu = also comes from Sanskrit e.g. Sundaram(beautiful / agreeable) ............ undu ~ agree

So any way you slice it, Sanskrit roots can be found in Malayalam.

BTW Samudram is also used liberally in malayalam, as is Kadal. Only Kadal means Sea, Samudram tend to mean ocean.
