Major Shift: Pakistan Army's Green Book 2012-13

Its is interesting to see how many Pakistanis talk about 'external interference' on one hand and on the other shy away from producing any proof. I am not surprised since its very easy to blame others for your ills and much harder to look within and improve.

If you think logically how is it possible that there is external interference yet no proof. Look how India went to the town humiliating Pakistan after 26/11. We had the proof and we showed it to the world. If you have concrete proof every country will support you. Yet you haven't got even your best friend China on your side on this issue. Speaks volume of the fact you have no evidence against any country.

Overall is it so hard to understand what is going on? The Taliban have an ideology. They are not a rag tag militia just fighting for the sake of fighting. They have a goal. And those who think that they will restrict themselves to Afghanistan are in serious delusion. For Taliban once Afghanistan is liberated Pakistan will be the next ground zero.

Isn't the book of 2012 supposed to be published in 2014? That's how it has happened in the past.

Seems that good sense has finally prevailed on PA's doctrine makers! India was never a threat to Pakistan, but the PA generals had thought it expedient to keep India as enemy number one, a clear and present danger and a major threat which needless to say, was one was the most effective ways to get a huge chunk of Pakistan's budget diverted towards 'defence' against India.

Well you put forward two points:
India was never an Enemy
PA Generals Got Huge Budget Because of India

1... You got quite a sense of Humour, I must say as you are senior Member
2... Do you really think After this New Action Plan the Pak Army Budget will be reduced

It is very clear that Pak Army ought to go for Home Enemy in first priority and then go for its External Reasons ,thanks to Reported courtesy of India and US to some Balochi Leaders and Their Toys found used by various Terrorists

The problem with guys like you is that you keep shooting from the hip. The bottom line is that you guys have produced NO PROOF of these so called 'toys' that India has supplied to the Balochis.

If you have, then show those toys here. That's a challenge! If you can't then I suggest you just pipe down and stop blaming India for all your ills. :hitwall:

The internal threat that the PA is probably referring to are the prostitute politicians, and the hooker wana be molanas, who are cashing in on the ignorant masses. AKA qadri.

I am totally against this BS change of doctrine or Green/Red/Pink book, army should first treat basic key reasons over they changed their strategy. Despite treating them they deliberately by-passed from those reasons leaving them as toy of Law enforcement agencies and getting bucks indeed.

Pakistan army went to treat patient but not disease, it will result nothing but will create more problems for army on national level and will stand with question mark within social circles.

a good initiative indeed.
better late than never.
best of luck to pak.

Military readjusts to fight enemy at home

Military readjusts to fight enemy at home | The Nation

RAWALPINDI - The Pakistan Army now regards internal threats as the biggest danger to the country’s security and has brought a major shift in its operational priorities accordingly. The BBC reported on Wednesday that a new ‘Army Doctrine’ – shifting focus off the conventional enemy on the east to some organisations and individuals within the country and their associates across the western border – comes after some eleven years of war against terror.

The new doctrine has been added to the Green Book under the chapter “Sub-conventional warfare”. It describes the guerrilla activities on the country’s western borders and tribal areas, and the bombings carried out by various organisations on some institutions or citizens, as the biggest threat to the country’s security. The BBC quoted a senior Army official, who was participated in preparation of the Green Book, as saying that the purpose of adding the new chapter to the book was to prepare the mlitary to fight the new ‘internal’ threat and to get the required popular and political support. The 200 plus-page book is being distributed to commanders. People will also be apprised of the new doctrine and at some appropriate time it will also be uploaded on the army’s website.

The army prepares and publishes this guideline to analyse its capacity and preparedness for war and keep them in the right direction. The book says that some organisations and individuals are out to annihilate Pakistan and their terrorist activities in tribal and urban areas are aimed to achieve the same target. These attacks are planned very skilfully and can be countered through a matching expertise, it says. The chapter dealing with non-conventional war says that this element is also responsible for militancy in various areas of the country. However, no country involved in the alleged proxy war has been identified.

The BBC quoted sources as saying that the concentration of defence forces on the Eastern border, in the absence of a threat from the western side, made it impossible for them to get a timely information about the US helicopters action against Osama bin Laden. The then Chief of the Air Staff had said this even before the Abbottabad Commission. This statement, the official said, forced the defence policy makers to change their policy. The sources say that lack of powers and necessary equipment to avert a Nato attack on the Salala checkpost in November 2011 also led to the coining of new term ‘non-conventional war’.Defence analyst Lt-Gen (r) Talat Masood said that till the preparation and publication of the new doctrine, Pakistan has been treating its eastern neighbour as its enemy number one, and it has been accumulating and using all its weapons against it. And this is for the first time that the army has conceded that the real threat comes from within and which is concentrated on the western borders and the adjoining areas.According to Gen Talat, now the army is most likely to target the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and its allies across the border in Afghanistan.

Staff Reporter from Islamabad adds: The monthly corps commanders conference would be held at the General Headquarters on Friday (tomorrow). According to a military statement issued here Wednesday, professional matters would be discussed during the meeting.

No, a huge chunk is always diverted to the civilian leaders Swiss bank account, corruption is always lower during military rule

I have always said this, internal threats are doing Pakistan more damage than all other direct external elements. Talking to a Major on this topic, I said that Pakistan Army must review their priorities and take these internal elements as greater threat than India or any other direct external elements.

When someone from outside attacks, it is easier to fight them and hold your grounds rather than someone from within yourself.

The move towards western border is well appreciated but moving from eastern borders seems to compromise security which isn't the best thing to do unless really required.

Your post totally overlooked hostile actions and conduct by your country against Pakistan. Trust me, only the minimum yet credible amount of resources is and has been devoted towards eastern sector.

Use drones extensively on both fronts.

Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Army Aviation now both have UAVs for surveillance as well for strikes. Infact Pakistani UAVs have seen action on the Western front in previous days. Atleast a squadron of Chinese drones are active today.
