Major oil find near Pak-Iran border

Hi,

This is the 60's---that pakistan discovered huge amounts of oil in its sea and area neighboring Iran---but was threatened with war by Iran---.

This is what I still recall---.

As for threats---pakistanis have no back bone when it comes to Iran---pakistani generals and admin are gutless cowards---.

How come??? The Persian folks have no signifcant successes (especiallly against the non-Muslim entities)- based on the last 1500 years track records!!! Hindistan and Byzantine were hanging like ripe grapes all along but it took the Turkic folks -Alparslan and Aybek to be precise - to roll out the conquers!!!

Pakistani civilian Admins would do anything for money, and have been doing it since its creation.

Pakistani Generals have been capitulating, not because of lack of guts but because of lack of support, lack of resources and abundance of traitors. If ever there was a war between Pakistan and Iran, entire Pakistan Shiite population -- excluding Ismaili -- would have fought for Iran. Once Pakistan became embroiled in that and its back was turned, Indians would have come in and finished it off

KARACHI: Minister for Maritime Affairs and Foreign Affairs Abdullah Hussain Haroon on Friday said that ExxonMobil has indicated that it is close to hitting huge oil reserves near the Pak-Iran border, which could be even bigger than the Kuwaiti reserves.

Addressing business leaders at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the minister said that ExxonMobil — an American multinational oil and gas company — has so far drilled up to 5,000 meters close to the Iranian border and is optimistic about the oil find.

The Government of Pakistan, he said, has already taken an undertaking from the company to set up a generation complex worth $10 billion.

The government is also encouraging Chinese and Western investment in the country, he added.

He further said that there is a need to integrate the Karachi Port and Port Qasim so that they could supplement each other in the larger interest of the country.

On the occasion, he said the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) has sufficient funds for purchasing two vessels but this will be done by next government.

The minister said that there is greater need to have new area for fish harbour because the existing one has many issues and there is shortage of land. However, he regretted that the harbour is not well kept and hoped that the European Union (EU) will give subsidy for new fish harbour.

“Foreign investors are interested in coming to Pakistan, provided we manage to meet their standards and attract them to make investment,” he stressed.

The minister advised that ports should be developed so that they could meet the country’s demand on the basis of its markets and products and fully supported the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) development projects highlighted by KPT Chairman Admiral Jamil Akhtar.

Responding to a question, Mr Haroon said that there was no need to give Pakistani land to foreigners, adding: “There is need that as a nation should take up such projects of national importance.”

yes, these r the oil reserves that an AIDE of Ayub Khan was talking abt in his book. The reason why iran helped us in 1965 war was because that we reached a treaty with Shah that Pakistan will not extract oil from Balochistan in next 100 years, so that the oil in Sistan dont go dry as the underground crust of the earth in this area is sloped towards Pakistan, and oil being a liquid will always have tendency to move from lower concentration to higher concentration. Hence the oil under balochistan is much much larger then sistan, but if Pakistan started drilling it then Sistan will turn dry much faster.

Interestingly After Irani revolution the government of Iran broke all the packs and treaties Shah had before for iran and renegotiated them expect for this one nor was ever discussed with Pakistan nor any Pakistani brought this up with them.

If this true then it should be reversed now!

America knew abt this oil reserve all along, this ExxonMobil discovery isnt new which itself is an American company. Because back then also America had done recce of entire Pakistan for resources too during that honeymoon period of Ayub Khan with America.

I Have Some Background On This.The Area Forms Part Of The Balochistan Basin.This Is Known To Geologists To Contain Large Hydrocarbons.Actually Geologists Have Likened It To Cook Inlet In Alaska.

Iranian oil flowing towards Baluchistan is stupid and whoever came up with the theory is dumb and doesn't really understand how deep under ground oil and gas reserves function.

Why and how could any country be in a deal with another to not mine minerals in their own territory because the other might have a down flow towards theirs? Doesn't that sound stupid in the first pace? And why doesn;t IRan pay us 50% of its oil sales then to keep us from drilling then?

We are sitting on huge reserves, even the sea around Karachi and Gwadar is carrying reserves even beyond the Saudi scale, we just ain't too keen on drilling in yet because things been messier and no one wanted money coming in only to be stolen...

Plus Iran is yet to object to dig... which its self is huge investment... how can they object to find??? And even if they do I think we have enough muscle to protect what's ours
