Iraq and Iran are still having deformed babies thanks to one's unplanned actions against the other where both countries end up suffering!
Chernobyl is still used as an example...
Nuke is not as simple as throwing a bomb and walking away, the debris, after effect, left over residual, too many cons....Do you want to make it waste land incapable of resettlement in future? Or if resettlement does occur, with left over poisonous left overs? With our technology and rate of corruption....cleaning up would be like brushing it all under the rug and letting people who try to live on the land die...
Haste is never an answer....esp not when you are talking about nuclear!
and whose gonna clean it up? You dont blindly nuke...Japan is still cleaning up after how many years....You do the balance...
