Those are from the stop over in Istres on the way to Red Flag.

2 IL-78 / 2 GlobeMasters /$ MKI and 4 Jaguars ( that some French mechs probably looked at fondly )
Strange path : Egypt - France - Portugal ( Lajes, wink! ).
They arrived on April 6th and left the next day.
Considered a normal visit in between Garudas, waiting for the next one.
All part of the strategic partnership signed in 1998.

During the first phase of the exercise Red Flag-Alaska Su-30MKIs and Jaguars made joint flights with F-16C, F-15C and F-22 from US Air Force, as well as Boeing EA-18G Growler EW aircraft of US Navy, which were mixed groups of aircrafts, taking part in a variety of 'close to real' scenarios.

The Eielson airbase's elite 18th Aggressor Squadron that flies the F-16C, and the Indian Air Force are particularly interested in a detailed study of the Su-30MKI features in aerial combat at high and low ranges against the F-16, which is the main fighter in the PAF inventory.

The aircrafts deployed to Eielson for RF-A, are undergoing combined offensive counter-air, interdiction, close air support and large force employment training in a simulated combat environment.

Inconsequential (and not yet finished). These are exercises, everyone is there to learn, share experience and have a good time. There will be bragging from both sides, but at the end of the day, it's only an exercise and no judgement can be made of performance without knowing the restrictions and parameters the pilots and crews are operating under.

We, the civilian public (or you anyway, I'm military) aren't going to have access to that info. Kill counts may make for good forum puff-pieces, but that's it. Other then for stoking our egos, they're garbage.

Every nation the USN trains with that has submarines has "killed" a Nimitz-class carrier. All of them. Japan, Norway, France, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Australia... and on and on and on.

It happens in training, it happens to everyone and those of us who've taken part in such training just laugh off the results. They don't matter. We are there to learn and refine our capabilities, not worry about kill counts.

Anyone making a big deal out of them or puffing up their chest and saying, "we're the best" is an idiot.

since you are from military, what's your opinion of the recent exercise which involved french, British and US air-force?

It was talked about as the attempt to maintain the fighting edge of the west over the east. IIRC,everyone had brought their finest platforms for exercise.

Interesting fact about Red Flag Alaska..
Its run as a "easy" counterpart for Red Flag Vegas to allow foreign friends to train in a less demanding environment as compared to Red Flag Vegas in terms of Fratricide rules and inter operability. Considering that in the last Red Flag the Su-30MKIs were killing all their blue side allies a bit too high due to their lack on interoperability and trigger happy nature.. Red Flag Alaska suits them well.

since you are from military, what's your opinion of the recent exercise which involved french, British and US air-force?

The Trilateral Exercise between France, the UK and US was not a Red Flag type of scenario that was strictly for training purposes and a bit of goodwill for upcoming partners and allies. It was an integration exercise designed to further enhance the cooperability of the French, British and American Air Forces when operating under a single, unified command.

This arose because of some issues with the command structure during Operation Odyssey Dawn and more recently in Inherent Resolve.

As for my thoughts on the exercises, it's not the first or last of its kind, but is an important step to increasing the capabilities of a unified force when dealing with regional threats.

Red Flag and RIMPAC are a different type of game then was the Trilateral Exercise.

Training against F16 blk52s - our air force pilots do that practically every day,been doing it long since,it's been since close to a decade now,in our own country!!Nothing new remains to be found out about it at this point.Thanks for your concerns though.
