Madrassa reforms - Suggestions

Some reforms are already underway. Here are other suggestions.

1. Establish federal madrassa board.

2. Minister for madrassa affairs.

3. Educational and Recreational trip programmes.

4. Three to six month courses in affiliation with NCA (National College of Arts) in different trades.

5. Introduction of NCC.

6. Appointment of Physical Education Teacher and start of sports activities.

I agree, mainly the centralised authority, and that more subjects are taught.

I don't know what kind of licensing system is in place, but it should be properly enforced otherwise those with extremist agendas will be allowed to teach impressionable youth.

4th one you can forget for good. Only thing which should be done is ask bigger Madrassas who get really good funding to start good schools and college in which Madrassah students first do matriculation and than FSC or FA or ICOM. Not only that there schools should become role models on How to integrate extensive religious education like teaching Arabic and translation of Quran and Hadees and seerat along with matriculation and than FSC or FA or ICOM and than a Madrassah student should study Darse Nizami in which some changes are also needed for example increased focus on Quran and it's Tafseer along with Hadith and Fiqh and Islamic History. Less focus on old philosophy. Also even after FA and FSC Madrassahs should encourage there students to do BA and than MA in subjects specially in economy related subjects. Government should finance the education.

At independence in 1947, there were only 137 madrassas (seminaries) in Pakistan. By 1956 the number had almost doubled. Under Pakistan’s first military ruler, Ayub Khan, an Auqaf Department was created to regulate shrines and madrassas so as to bring them and their funding under state control. Ayub also proposed a series of reforms that called for introducing the same primary school education syllabus for madrassas as that provided in government schools. These reforms were rejected by all the religious parties and thus failed to be implemented

Since then, no genuine attempt has been made by any government to bring Madrassas under govt. control Today there are between 40-50 thousand Madrassas in Pakistan (most of them unregistered). As per SPDC report (2003) , 70 % of Madrassas are run by Deobandi sect (the hardliners) affiliated with Wafaq-ul-Madaris Al-Arabia (one of the five madrassah boards in Pakistan) despite the fact that Deobandis make up less than 10 % of Pakistan's (total)population. There is no uniform curriculum or set of teachings across these five types of madrassa. While officially there is a standard madrassa curriculum known as the Dars-e-Nizami each type of madrassa follows its own exclusive texts with their specific and sectarian interpretations of Islamic teachings.


These Madrassas are not under the control of govt. and they receive heavy foreign funding, They are independent and they don't have to rely on govt. for anything . Article 20 (concerning Fundamental Rights) of Pakistan's constitution states :

(b) Every religious denomination and every sect thereof shall have the right to establish, maintain and manage its religious institutions.


Without amending the constitution, it is almost impossible for the government to bring Madrassas under "effective" control of the state ... And even a "talk" of amending any Islamic provision of the constitution draws a huge public outrage in Pakistan . (As we saw during Musharraf's era) ..


We are stuck in a bad situation, esp. when 82% of those belonging to Deobandi madrassas see the Taliban as a model for Islamizing Pakistan as per survey (Ali, 2010)... And more than 90% of those studying in Shia Madrassahs see Iran as their role model.




Research done by the Pakistan based Social Policy and Development Center (SPDC) revealed that only 6% of madrassa students cite religious reasons for attending madrassas, while 89% cited economic reasons (The State of education Report, 2002-03, SPDC, 2003, p.161).

The government can increase its Education budget and provide financial aid to these students and encourage them to join public schools instead ..

There should be only one system of the education in the country. The system should be comprehensive and diverse enough that it caters for the needs of all, students are taught basic mannerism and etiquette in addition to literacy. The same system should cater for the needs of Muslim and non-Muslim students in terms of their religious needs. Muslim students can take optional courses like tajweed, Hifz-ul-Quran, fiqh and asool-e-fiqh, hadeeth, etc in addition to math and natural sciences, social studies and arts. The lectures on Islamic topic should be prepared in recorded forms by the best of the best scholars in the fields and played in the classrooms. While the students can ask their question by recording audio and video messages or sending emails and a panel of assistants helps the scholar answer in question on individual basis and FAQs. The approach can be adopted for non-Muslim students..so christians, hindus, liberals, libtards, atheists and Muslim student study in the same school and under the same roof but at the same time they are able to customise their academic path regardless of ethnic and economic backgrounds...no separate madrassahs and Coventry schools, no private grammar schools and no English vs Urdu medium debates, no FSc/ Matric vs O/A level arguments.

How about just close them down?
Close them down mindlessly and then you will witness the unprecedented dam-a-dam mast Qalandar that libtards will fly out of the country without the airplanes...and people will say "Oh see this libtard gotta jet" .

While the long term solution is the improve the education system of the country and make it truly universal.

Instead of NCA i think TEVTA is better option for short courses based on their experience. And will be more acceptable to madrasas.

abolish them and turn their properties in state funded schools and colleges , employ relatives of all who were killed by the jihadis to teach , educate those young impressionable minds. Bring them on our side

Should Appoint authentic Ulamas who teach Islam and just Islam not how to be devided into Firqaa Jaat..

There should be no Deobandi Madrasaa, Sunni Madrasaa, Brelvi Madrasaa and bla bla.. put out such teachers who are injecting this poison of separate sects.

Sunni, Shias and other sects are gravely under represented in federal and provincial religious institutions ranging from Federal Sharea court to halal committee.----- (which we don't need anyway)


Besides this dichotomy of federal judiciary between Sharea and the Supreme court gives the impression that the latter is some what not that halal

@Salik if we are to become an Islamic republic in true sense, have to eradicate this ancient madrass system which only churns out molvis who have no idea what are the contemporary geo strategic challenges are. Furthermore It contradicts the very teachings of Islam coz Primarily its a Christian concept to have a preist/ pop to get religious undertakings done.


So, Without fighting over the semantics , we can implement the same syllabus in madrassas which is being taught at govt schools and still call em madrassas . (happy)


Otherwise our shitty rich birader countries would keep on poking our national ideals, policies and interests by using this pressure group. This system is simply deprived of producing any hardliners vis a vis Pakistani nationalism

I suggest let the madrassas be. But force them to teach modern science, biology, chemistry, social sciences, economics to the students along with religious studies. Teach students especially the theory of evolution and astronomy. Let the students decide what they want to believe.
