In my place (Trivandrum,Kerala), both these goes hand in hand bro,and in most places in Kerala its the same from what I know.

When I was little,a teacher (usthad) used to come daily to my home mornings or evenings,i.e, before or after school. At first,script is taught and then each Chapters of the Holy book. Later I began going to madrassahs, 2 hours before morningmorning schools. All religious stuff were taught,like prayers,vavarious rites etc. Now, my nephews also follows the same suite.

No other stuff such as physics or chemistry were taught ,we went to the usual schools for that:p

Well I am from north Kerala, and there it is little different...... They have several madrassahs and they have specific timings....
Week days : 7 am to 9 pm..... 7 pm to 9 pm.... friday off..... All these kids are also regular students as they can attend the regular schools......

But several instances i almost got in to trouble while driving.... Girls are made to wear pardah (the black gown) and when they cross roads in a village where there is no street light, they did make me test my braking skills couple of times....

Same here bro,only the timings may be a bit different. However, solely Madrassah educated kids are there,though most of them do get basic exposures in the usual stuff too. And from my experience,their viewpoints are a bit different. Most of them continue as mullahs and ol.
