KTM was an Austrian company which is now an Indian company. Bajaj owns controlling stake at 49%, which according to the grapevine will be expanded soon.

These bikes are manufactured at Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra, India, and it was on the back of the sales of the smaller 125 and 200 cc variants of the same bike (this one is a 390 cc killer) also manufactured at the Chakan plant that KTM overtook BMW as the #1 bike manufacturer in Europe last year.

The R&D for these machines is done at the huge R&D facility at Chakan, with testing at their facility in Akurdi, jointly between Bajaj and KTM (India and Austria) teams. Outer design is by the world famous Kiska Designs.

Just a minor correction Bajaj owns 47.18% in KTM.

Its actually Hero MotoCrop which owns 49% in American EBR.

On the other note, KTM is also soaring high in motorsports, having won the prestigious 2013 edition Dakar rally, where the top five riders rode KTM
motorcycles.

Bro, they have made the top spot of the podium their own since 2001. Not a single year any other team has won. In what is arguably the world's toughest rally.

They are also largely untouchable (Yamaha managing some wins) in the FIM Motocross World Championships in all 3 categories - MX1, MX2, and MX3.

And in Moto GP as well they are the Moto 3 bike of choice.

Bajaj has 47% shares in KTM and they are in talks to get majority stakes (55%)

Bajaj, which has 47% stake in KTM, will have to buy 956,529 shares for at least 51 million euros (R360 crore) for the additional 8-9% stake, according to the current share price of KTM at the Vienna stock exchange (53.99 euros/share on Wednesday).

"Bajaj is in talks to increase its stake in KTM to 55-56%. This follows the plans to expand manufacturing of more premium KTM models at Bajaj's facilities, while also doing joint development work," a source said.

Facelifted Tata Aria to arrive before the end of 2013

Tata Motors who have been in a spot of bother in the Indian market is looking to revive its fortunes by placing a significant chunk of its current products through a series of changes and new variants to keep things alive for the Indian automaker. With variants on the Vista platform being chalked out, including a totted up and raised version (a semi-SUV if you could call it) as well as mini MPVs, it's getting its act together.

With no, all-new cars being lined up until the first part of 2015, Tata Motors will use the opportunity to shore up its current lineup and improve marketshare as well as volumes. Its flagship, the Aria hasn't set the sales charts afire and it seems Tata Motors is keen on doing just that. At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, it brought its refreshed version that sports more features as well as improved mechanicals in a bid to make it big in the ultra-competitive European market.

For one, a new six-speed automatic transmission is in the works. First shown at the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, this version gets a six-speed ZF transmission, courtesy Land Rover and the gear lever too is borrowed from the Freelander 2. It even gets winter and sport modes, key in the European markets. A more powerful 2.2-litre Dicor engine, producing 158 bhp of peak power instead of 138 bhp and a torque figure that reads at 40 plus kgm instead of the 32-odd kgm is also what's probably being offered for the European market.

Other changes include a new two-tone paint finish for the bonnet and roof, new revised headlamps with day-time LED lights, new clear-lens tail lamps and a new alloy-wheel design.

On the inside, the changes are minimal, with new seat fabric, a new climate control system with display and a new door lock-unlock button on the centre-console and now for the first time you can switch off ESP via a button on the 4x4 version. The example on display also did not have a third row of seats, hinting at the possibility that a five-seater for Europe is under consideration. More changes include a new audio system with a better resolved sound output and a revised GPS unit and rear-view camera. The facelifted Tata Aria will hit the European shores first, before making its Indian debut, which could be by the end of 2013.

India hands over 88 A/C buses to Bangladesh

Dhaka: Bangladesh has launched 88 India-made air-conditioned buses it procured under a USD 800 million Indian line of credit, officials said on Sunday.

"The Prime Minister (Sheikh Hasina) inaugurated the buses at a ceremony at her Ganobhaban official residence," a spokesman of the premier's office said.

A senior communication ministry official said the delivery of the buses ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival came as a timely asset to tens of thousands of Muslims as these vehicles could be used to ferry them to their homes across Bangladesh during the festival.

Officials said the buses were supplied by Ashok Leyland under a project to procure three types of buses by the state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation.

An Indian high commission statement said the project for procurement of 290 Double Decker Buses, 50 Articulated Buses and the 88 A/C buses at the cost of USD 36.85 million was included in the Indian credit line in August 2010.
"Delivery of all the 290 buses was completed on 30th October 2012 and the 50 articulated buses in April 2013. Procurement of 88 A/C buses is the last component of this project," it said.
