My father had a old school Datsun decades ago in the Gulf.

Fab. mechanicals, I have fond memories of having my way with his Datsun. I used to 'fly' his Datsun. It wasn't our first bit for me it was something else.

India is lucky and a great economy to get ~ Pak. Rs. 60,000 ($ 5 Billion) car.'s investment from Datsun Co. for a Global hub for this fab. brand.

Correct me if wrong, India now has the largest consumer choice of locally made cheap-&-best cars ?

Only French and maybe Malay small car brands missing. Do Brazil or Turkey have another hidden local Tata or Mahindra.

Mahindra to Introduce the Sensational All New Scorpio in 2014

Mahindra Scorpio has changed the face of Auto industry in India, and has been the major market leader for Mahindra since its launch ten years ago. To provide a brighter view of the statistics; the Scorpio contributes 4,000 units profit sales a month and over 4,00,00 units since its launch. The Scorpio with its constant new refreshments and power efficiency will have constant and raging rivals of auto majors such as Maruti Suzuki, Ford Renault, Toyota, and Nissan. The Scorpio will arrive with a steep price for the consistent renewal and increased mileage capacity.

To provide an overview of the characteristics of the all new Scorpio, the W105 codenamed car will be structured on a heavier platform than the current Scorpio. The noticeable changes will be a longer wheelbase with abundant interior room for second row passengers. The new engine will provide a smooth driving experience be being designed with improved power and reduced Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH). The new engine will churn shockingly impressive output of 140 bhp.

Mahindra promotes the XUV500 SUV through film competition

The Indian SUV leader, Mahindra & Mahindra has taken a very innovative approach towards advertisement campaign. Mahindra had joined hands with the Indian version of The 48 Hour Film Project (HFP), which is an international short film competition where participants make and deliver their short film project within 48 hours. Mahindra has taken help of the 48 Hour Film Project to launch a brand-based film competition. Mahindra & Mahindra has named the competition as the ‘XUV500 Memorable Stories Short Film Festival’. The most exciting thing is that the winner of this competition will get to take home this very premium SUV.

While speaking on the partnership between M&M and HFP, the chief marketing officer of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra Vivek Nayer said that the modern people want get interesting experiences. Fresh and innovative experiences are the new essence of the modern world. Through this short film festival, Mahindra wishes to create memorable stories in the hearts of the XUV500 customers. Thus the company in association with The 48 Hour Film Project has decided to bring forward this short films contest to make the XUV500′s brand theme of ‘May your life be full of stories’ come alive literally.

One of the two producers of the Indian version of The 48 HFP, Preeti Gopalkrishnan says that Mahindra & Mahindra has called them to create and conceptualize a short film competition format to suit the Indian participants. The theme of this competition is very straight forward; all the short films will have to have the XUV500 SUV as the central focus, and not to be used as a prop. To help the contestants, Mahindra has also offered XUV500 SUVs during shoots.

The actual competition took place in 2012; however the winner and runners up were announced earlier in the current year of 2013. The winning team has already received the XUV500 SUV as their prize earlier this month.

The 48 HFP selected 29 film makers from across Indian cities of Delhi, Jodhpur, Mumbai, Pune, Bengalore, Hyderabad and Chennai to take part in this competition. The participants included ad makers, corporate filmmakers, documentary makers and film enthusiasts. Six of the participating teams arranged the XUV500 on their own, while Mahindra provided for the others for the shoot. However, among 29 teams, only 23 film projects were submitted.

Nayer confirms that the brand theme of the XUV500 was promoted via this short film festival and when the viewer watches these films they get to see the XUV500 as the primary character in story. These 23 films have recorded more than 1 lakh views on YouTube.

Considering the partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra, The 48 HFP made its format flexible and gave the participants 15 days to complete their short films. The films were judged by a jury comprising of renowned names in the Indian film and media industries.
All the participating films including the winning script, ‘Deal’ are Mahindra & Mahindra property. Mahindra is using these films to promote the XUV500 among the owners and prospective customers.

Mahindra & Mahindra slashes down prices of XUV500, new prices officially released

Mahindra & Mahindra has found a way to reduce its XUV500 SUV’s ground clearance in order to evade the hiked excise duty for the SUVs. As a result the Indian Utility Vehicle leader has been also able to reduce the price of its premium XUV500, and has quietly revised the prices of the SUV model.

At this year’s Union budget, the Indian government announced an additional 3 percent excise duty on the SUVs that have a ground clearance of 170mm and more. This additional excise duty charges had troubled many auto makers who have big SUVs in the Indian market. Mahindra & Mahindra was especially affected by this tax hike as the company’s several models were falling under the new tax system including the XUV500, Scorpio and Bolero among others. Thus, Mahindra & Mahindra has reduced the ground clearance of the XUV500 by attaching a tone guard on the SUVs underbody to protect it from the damaging effects of the rough terrains. The ground clearance reduction and the resulted hiked excise duty evasion have made the variants of the XUV500 SUV cost up to Rs. 30,000 lesser than before.

According to the new excise duty charges all vehicles that have a ground clearance of more than 170mm, an engine capacity of more than 1.5 liters and a length of over will attract an additional 3 percent tax. This increased tax had troubled Mahindra a lot as several of model’s prices had to be increased. This as a result affected Mahindra’s sales rates, as the consumers didn’t want to invest more money to buy a new SUV in the present economic conditions.

Mahindra was unable to price the cars competitively and its domestic demands started falling. The XUV500 SUV was also falling under the higher excise slab, which started hitting its sales figures. Mahindra thus came up with the idea of fixing a stone guard as a protective measure for the underbody of the vehicle and this feature has also reduced the ground clearance of the XUV500 by 40mm, making its new ground clearance under 170mm. This change has made the company able to cut down the SUV’s price as it no longer has to pay the additional excise duty. Mahindra has announced the new prices of the XUV500 and the starting price of the vehicle is now Rs. 11.85 lakh, the other two higher model trims now cost Rs. 13.40 lakh and Rs. 14.44 lakh.

It is also a well known fact that Mahindra is working on a new low cost variant of the premium XUV500 SUV and is expected to launch the variant soon in the Indian market to pump up the sales.

Apart from the cheaper variant of the XUV500, Mahindra is also working full swing on several other cars to be launched in India. The company’s much speculated compact SUV that is still codenamed as S101 is expected to come soon as a primary rival of the newly launched urban compact SUV Ford EcoSport

Oh man I love the Dukes! I visited a local KTM showroom yesterday and I saw the RC8 1190R in all its glory. There was a Ninja too, but Ninja looked bland compared to the RC8! Such beauty! So sexy! Jeez!
