Bajaj Duke for over 1 Lakh ? I say it's a very fine balance, real fine.

Any working class 'executive' will remain with the Pulsar. And there's millions of outsourcing 'executives' and expanding.

Hero, the former Hero-Honda, remains the bike of the 'masses'. So Bajaj is protecting it's turf, and expanding it's wallet by peddling the Duke in India at a good price, but to who. I say a slightly richer cut of college kid, or 'trades-men' types.

Say cash rich fishermen, electrician, painters and the high-end 'mistry' types .

Bajaj Auto is all-set to unveil its next-generation Pulsar motorcycles on January 30, 2012. The two-wheeler maker will also reveal its future plans for the segment.

The next-gen Pulsar is slated to be 100 percent brand new and will come with technology better than the current DTS-i. The company insists that the new technology will be the next level for motorcycles in India and not just the next level for Bajaj.

The new technology will first debut on the new Pulsars, after which the Discover products could adapt the same.:yahoo::yahoo:

Caterpillar arm to make engines at Aurangabad

Perkins India Pvt Ltd, a group company of US-based Caterpillar Inc, has plans to set up a greenfield facility to manufacture diesel and gas engines at Aurangabad.

According to sources, the company has finalised the location of the new facility, expected to go on stream in the second half of next year, at the upcoming second phase of the Shendra industrial estate. The proposed investment in the plant, for which Caterpillar has sought Mega Project Status, is around Rs 500 crore in the first phase, with a provision for expansion.

At Aurangabad, Perkins plans to make its 4000 series engines, currently made only in the UK, that are used in generator sets. The engines will be for sale in both the domestic as well as the export market, the source added.

Headquartered in Peterborough, UK, Perkins Engines Company Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. The parent company is present in India through two facilities located in Tamil Nadu where construction machinery and engines are manufactured.

With six manufacturing sites worldwide, including two in China, Perkins is a leading manufacturer of industrial diesel and gas engines. These are used for a host of applications, including power generation and construction machinery. The company also sources components from India for use globally, and the setting up of a manufacturing facility for engines in India is expected to give a fillip to this business.

Demand for industrial land has prompted the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to establish a second phase to the existing 800 hectare Shendra industrial estate in Aurangabad, home to Czech auto maker Skoda, Siemens, and Hindalco. Acquisition of 250 hectares for this purpose has been completed and Perkins is likely to be the first occupant of the new industrial estate.

LR to build next Defender in India

Land Rover is planning to build its all-new Land Rover Defender at the manufacturing headquarters of parent company Tata Motors in Pune, India. And it will probably send some models back to Europe for final assembly in the UK as part of a ‘reverse CKD’ operation. Land Rover already builds Freelanders in India for sale in Asia.

The new Defender plan, revealed by Tata chairman Ratan Tata in an exclusive Autocar interview, would have the twin benefits of lowering the manufacturing costs of a model Land Rover is determined to sell at affordable prices in Europe, and of locating a Defender operation close to key Asia-Pacific markets where it should sell strongly.

The 2015 Defender, which Land Rover has decided will have body-on-frame construction as opposed to the monocoque design it also considered, will thus keep the configurability of today’s models while offering much more modern packaging, comfort, controls and dynamics.

It is likely that the Defender will use updated, lightened versions of Land Rover’s much-praised T5 ladder chassis, currently used for the Discovery and Range Rover Sport. The basic styling of Land Rover’s recent DC100 concepts is understood to be very close to that planned for the new Defender, although details such as wheels, lights, grilles and interior styling will all change.

If the Pune manufacturing plan is adopted, the Defender will share major chassis and suspension parts with a revised version of the Indian-built Tata Aria SUV, also made in Pune and due in several years’ time. The two chassis will not be identical but should be close enough in dimensions and specification to share the same manufacturing process.

The Pune Defender plan looks all the more workable because Tata recently announced plans to build back-to-back engine plants in Pune and Wolverhampton. Either should be able to provide the staple four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines a new Defender would need.

because fuel injection gives better atomization of fuel and prefect timing for igintion as well better fuel burning
but it requires ECU and other complicated circutary which makes it costlier and one thing more to get complete
fuel burning and better fuel emission norms required these days friend............. :-)

reliability issues with fuel injection. plus in such small engines, FI increases costs without significant gains in performance.
I've heard about Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi's had some reliability issues especially with injectors?
But, TVS Apache,Royal Enfield etc have Fuel injections successfully employed after the initial niggles. O2 Sensor seems to be the expensive part which is missing in Enfields(for India consumption).

Fuel injection for a bike? What in the world for? :lol:
benefits of fuel injection can be seen when you drive to hills where your engine will not be lugging or "missing" after reaching a higher altitude. carburettor based motorcycles usually needs to adjust to tune the fuel-air mixture to adjust with the altitude. else, most often engines die out due to lean air mixture.
