Made in India Vehicles

its not necessarily a dumb strategy by Mitsubishi; even if its seen as retro-gressive, perhaps its a watered down and stripped down to the basics in order to make it affordable to lower income people.....

no chance of ''cannibalization'' because those willing to pay a bigger premium can get a fully loaded Pajero ---which look modern, come with GPS, automatically locking differentials, leather interiors and all the other 'goodies'

Thanks Abu, your posts are informative and I learn something new.

Re: Iran, I've always been curious as to why their auto or Aerospace industry never really took off.
Pakistan would be an obvious export market, India too. Bangladesh? Indonesia, Maalysia ... Africa.

I would have thought the'd put some of their oil money into marketing said products, no? Or is it the
old Socialist, Commie, S. Asian model of keep the competition out, run a monopoly at home and ... hehe ...
keep the govt. job, privileges and pass around patronage ;)

decades of sanctions and isolation make it "unfashionable" and in some cases illegal for developed or 'EMF' countries to assist in their program or do business with them.

Iranian cars are making their way to Middle Eastern markets (primarily Syria and Egypt)....I think some South American countries as well. They have a fairly decent edge in automotive industry, they are producing everything --small cars, sedans, SUVs, vans, pickups, buses, minibuses etc.

In Pakistan's case, I guess there just isnt a sufficient market for them. The cheap cars (Suzuku, Hyundai, Chinese brands etc.) foster to lower income groups; whereas for some reason middle and middle-upper income groups tend to stick to Toyota, Honda, Nissans (brand preferences).

Who knows, maybe in the future....

hard to say.....Iran is currently the 12th largest cars manufacturer in the world; their second biggest industry after gas/oil. I guess they focus more on domestic consumption but only in the past decade they have adapted to foreign markets as well. Iran has a mix of private and publicly owned manufacturers. So not sure how much 'say' in it govt. has.

they've done fairly well.....despite sanctions and embargos and all that stuff. Gotta give it to them. They did what the entire GCC couldnt do effectively.....invest in their people, invest in their industrial/manufacturing capabilities. They arent a perfect model, but there are many things which we ought to emulate from them.

Don't quite like the idea of having the speedometer cluster in the middle:confused:

I think it is because that helps in minimal change in the dash board for LH drive models for export

Ah smart! But it would be hard to read the speed and such from the side wouldn't it, as in you won't be able to read it accurately?

seems to be a new trend.....some of the new compact Toyotas (like Yaris); even Mini Cooper is designing it like that.

it's 'different' ......

The new Verna and Fluence looks good on roads these days.

There are lot of Indians who are loaded, and lot of exotic cars in India. But this thread is about Indian automobile companies. Can we leave out the off topic comments?

Trust a Pakistani to boast about their corrupt politicians

This is truely good car, Tata manza is fully loaded.. Price is incredibily low (Just 7.8 lakhs bangalore).. at this price you can get nothing better than this, and nothing near to this...

there's a lot of ''things'' we make (and export)......cars are not one of them however. Those companies that do give licenses for domestic ASSEMBLY are purely for domestic consumption.

my only point was that when companies give you licenses (or joint ventures are formed between auto manufacturers and local subsidiaries) to assemble cars --they are doing exactly that. You are not the manufacturer. The car is made in hindustan, the parts, the tool & die, the specific quality assurance measures and tools (e.g. noise detection systems and other crucial things); majority (if not all) of the robots on the production lines --those are all foreign.

so if you want to adhere to the topic at hand, focus on your Marindras, Tatas, and hindustans. Dont come here and then try to convince me that a Pajero chassis designed 20 years ago by Mitsubishi of Japan is now ''made in india'' because that's retarded.

what's your point? Ford motor company has a joint venture with Koc Holdings group in Turkiye --- they assemble commercial vehicles like the Transit Connect and Cargo. Does that make them Turkish vehicles? No. It doesnt.

not to say that it isnt beneficial or that it doesnt create local jobs....it's commendable! But it's just not ''indian'' or ''made in india''

as the topic here is ''made in india'' then perhaps you should be responsible and not try to mislead people with false information.

Such views are common from people from countries that do not have the ability to manufacture even an IC engine let alone an entire car. You may rant all you want but no one here claimed a foreign car is Indian. It is manufactured in India with raw materials from here and hence, like it or not, it is made in India.

And going by the samples of carts that you guys claim as cars one can draw the engineering capacity of your country. Having clarified that, you should deal with your insecurities in some other way and not troll around in a thread when your country is not exactly known for its engineering capabilities..we understand the sour grapes.

Also, when countries do not have a similar legacy in automobiles dating back to 1948 and earlier, one takes pride and interest in what we design or in just what we make. As I said earlier, these are things that countries that do not have a similar legacy cannot understand.

Back in India similar to how some silly Pakistanis claim to be fairer, taller and better looking, some naughty Indians have coined a word called "Lahori Math". This is often used when someone is weak in Math but defends their wrong logic. True story by the way..neither kidding nor trolling... describes the trolling attempt here as well.
