What's new

Made in India Vehicles

It's pretty fun to break old men's hearts and take their record - @CaylaRivas after breaking the Bonneville land-speed record in the twin cylinder, naturally aspirated class for 600-750cc.

The earlier record stood at 100.1 MPH, but by the time Royal Enfield left the salt flats it had jumped to a new high of 157.053 MPH (pending FIM ratification).

After a very long wait and launch in multiple countries, Bajaj Qute is finally in India.

Is it too expensive at 2.6 lakhs? Considering that it's not a car and that there are multiple cars in India that you can get at this price, some think so. But I say not. It's the right price.

I had said that Keralam will be one of the states to look forward to in order to analyse these kind of vehicles, considering that the autorikshaw drivers are rich enough and own their own vehicles and maintain them beautifully, unlike in Mumbai and such. Many of them have moved on to using TATA Ace. Ace costs about 3.5 lakhs, more than many cars. This did not deter them.

Other than the benefits of four wheels, Ace provides huge space compared to three wheelers, but has a fuel efficiency not much higher than cars. Qute size is small compared to Ace, but provides a fuel efficiency of 35 kmpl and 45 km/kg for CNG. Cars worth 2.6 lakhs can't be compared. The competition will be between Ace and Qute, one excelling in space, and the other in mileage and enclosure.

But the real struggle will be against Mahindra Jeeto, which excels in space, enclosure and mileage. But Qute beats it in price by 1 lakh.

Bubble car, and fugly to boot.

Badal, Dolphin, Tata Nano and fugly Cute now, no news there.

Their production models/versions are now very close to their concepts.

TATA motors is building a line up of cars that can compete, in-terms of looks, anywhere in the world.

One small landmine and it will topple over... what are ur engineers thinking?
It's essentially a Hummer under JV. Kalyani themselves aren't a proven automaker. LSV requirements are limited.

RE 650 twins launched in India. Prices below and around 3lakh on-road. All competitors in trouble. So is the Classic 500.

Mahindra-owned Jawa launches three ~300 cc models the next day. Prices 1.55 to 1.89 lakh, ex-showroom. Supposed to beat RE 350.

Indian auto industry is coming along nicely enough, I am excited about the immediate future re: e-vehicles.
  • I'm excited about the millions of two wheeler plus e-rickshaws on the roads combined. Exciting to note that many old, new and start-up's have lined up electric auto's, scooters, mopeds and motorcycle's already. Great disruptions are on the way. Along side, is the rapidly evolving electric small car, mini-trucks and the rest of the mainstream auto industry including evolving electric tractors
The boss of the Indian auto industry Maruti-Suzuki is making @ least $ 1 & 1/2 Billion yr.-on-yr., has about $ 5-8 Billion in the bank and is sitting on at least $ 7-10 Billion in prime land right next to Global outsourcing epicenter dlf's cyberCity in Gurugram.

:) Therefore, India's e-conversion drive will swing India to a clean, quiet India in 3-5 yrs.

Nissan India has started the production of their upcoming five-seater SUV, the Kicks, at the brand's Chennai facility. The new Nissan Kicks SUV will be launched in India in January 2019. There is also a rumour that it is a replacement to the current Nissan Terrano.

The Nissan Kicks follows the brand's latest design philosophy with the bold front-end styling and muscular creases. The design team has coined some terms such as a "Dynamic Sonic Plus line", wheel-oriented stance and a distinctive three-dimensional presence; regarding the looks of the Nissan Kicks.

From the pictures, it is evident that the Kicks has got enough ground clearance to take on the bad roads. The Nissan Kicks rides on 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, unlike the Terrano which rides on 16-inch wheels.

Besides this, the Nissan Kicks also gets a unique and safe body structure. The majority of the body comprises of graphene (Gravity-philicEnergy Absorption; as Nissan calls it) and boasts of a higher resistance to impacts (through absorption).

The Nissan Kicks will be available in both petrol and diesel formats. Global variants of the Nissan Kicks get a 1.6-litre petrol unit, but we expect the Indian version to make use of the Terrano's 1.5-litre mill. The petrol engine in the Terrano makes 102bhp and 145Nm of torque, and is mated to a five-speed manual.

On the other hand, the Nissan Kicks diesel will have a 1.5-litre unit, but in two states of tune: 84bhp/200Nm and 109bhp/245Nm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There will also be an automatic variant on offer.

Thoughts On The Nissan Kicks

The new Nissan Kicks is currently one of the most anticipated mid-size five-seater SUVs on the market. The Nissan Terrano is quite outdated now and is in dire need of a replacement. At an expected starting price of close to Rs 12 lakh, the Nissan Kicks will be a good SUV option you can make.
