Loyalty undertaking rankles IDPs returning to Waziristan - Pakistan

I like your honesty in expressing your thoughts. Perhaps you are no aware that Pashtuns worship their zameen more than Hindus worship their cows
Then they should be Introduced to the Concept of Modern form of Governance so that they can serve their Zameen better. This Tribal ways can be good in Resolving intertribal problems but it lacks a development and Institutionalization to the large extent.

It belongs in a museum.

To become prosperous you need government and rule of law. Not law of the jungle.

FATA needs CCTV surveillance, proper police force and courts.

Tribals are modern days slaves under colonial FCR

Whats up with cancellation of national identity card threat? are they temporary or half Pakistanis or what?

Earlier in the summer, when the operation was launched, weeks of air strikes, ground attacks and penetrating local militant networks with human and signals intelligence were not enough. Nor were the “strangulation operations” that had kicked off before the official campaign was launched on the 30th of June. ‘NWA’ was a different challenge from Swat, assessed the brass. The local population was “entrenched in a decade-long economy of terror” that made them “invested in the anarchy” that was North Waziristan, says General Khattak

“Almost every household here was infected by the economy of terror,” says Brigadier Azhar Abbasi. “Regular folk here maintained a basement with a torture chamber or a private jail in their house, because they would hold hostages for kidnapper networks in the mainland...A hostage from Karachi or Lahore [Pakistan’s main cities] would end up in the basement of a shopkeeper here, tucked away from the grip of the law, waiting for his ransom...almost every family depended on abduction, crime, narcotics, gun-running, smuggling or terror economy, directly or indirectly.”

When you have such innocent tribals living in N.Waziristan, It become somewhat necessary to take oath of loyalty so they don't go back to their old ways

“The ultimate solution will be legal and economic”, adds Abbasi. “But first we need to disinfect and disconnect this place from the profitable mechanisms of terror.”

I disagree with you on the museum part.

The Governance and Institutions serve Development and Prosperity related purpose but it lacks Community related purpose so Tribal System can contribute Equally in resolving Social Issues which can take years for modern Court system to decide.

Agreed. But FCR is not Pashtun law, it is a British law. The Pashtun customary laws and customs also exist in tribes of KPK and Baluchistan, dont confuse it with FCR. Pashtuns dont support draconian laws of FCR. Jirgas should not function as courts, they are only for Salisi or for debate on qaumi issues

I know Pashtuns concern here but there should be somewhere to begin at least as we have seen in the past that Governance was not even given a chance to be introduced there and Tribal Rules reign supreme in those areas. No matter how effective Tribal Rule actually is there would still be a fault line in it and would be exploited by unwanted Elements as well so there should be somewhere to start something that people could benefit from. Maybe FCR is not good but I dont think it would stay longer if Public Opinion started Turning against it.

Scrap the colonial laws.
Bring economic development.
Disarm local warlords.
Strengthen the borders.
Bring education and job prospects to the youth of the area.

I love the tribals. Azad Kashmir will never forget how they came to our aid during the war of liberation.

@waz they will never give up their Arms ... and this is not good for our Country ...

On one hand Army/Government is threatening Tribals not to allow militant groups on their soil on the other hand

What were they expecting after running a terror economy for decades now and collaborating with the terrorists for so long? Why is it then so surprising or unexpected to get treatment like this from the Govt? They aren't considered loyal anymore due to a reason and it isn't some propaganda The stone ages are over, welcome to the civilized world. Maybe, they should have realized that religion infused extremism and subsequent terrorism cant possibly continue forever.

“There was an ‘IED Bazaar’ where you could buy anything from a suicide-bomb jacket with 50 kilos of explosives to a VBIED [vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, or car bomb],” says Khattak. “You could, from a good dealer, even pick the type of colour you wanted for the vehicle that was to be your 2,000 pound car bomb”.

The security officer, Lt. Colonel Jawad Bajwa of the 54 Baloch Regiment, sorts it out: “They gave us quite a fire-fight here,” he says. “They took over the cashier’s office and pounded rockets at us from there. It took most of the night to take care of them. They’re tough, the Ubzeks. And they ran this city, with a lot of local support.”

“Do not be mistaken, there was some, but very negligible, collateral damage,” explains Brigadier Abbasi. “But everybody, good and bad, took advantage of the exit routes we allowed. Our intercepts tell us that many Tangos are now in the TDP [temporarily displaced persons] camps in Bannu. Our intel shows us mounds of hair they cut and shaved to fit in with the locals during the movement. There were loopholes, and they took advantage of them...And the locals let them.”

All happening with the consent of the locals. Wonderful and these people wonder why they are being asked to sign a loyalty agreement now!

Here comes the Bihari with his usual rants against tribals

Of course, you cant move past that with your 10 points IQ. And of course, you cant debunk the post itself for deep inside you know all of this pretty well. Rants? I suggest you have a look at the definition and see if it includes being backed by credible sources detailing the life of the tribal(s) in the area.
