Lockheed to handover latest F-35/ F-16 tech to India in fighter jet bid

They need a sucker now as there is talk that the F-35's will most probably be embargoed for Turkey, due to many political reason's, so now they need a new sucker to milk, and India is a great paying sucker candidate for F-35.

All that's great, but IAF has asked for GaN radars. The RFP will ask for capabilities that the F-35 doesn't have, let alone the F-16.

The USAF will operate F-16s beyond 2048.

“The IAF has issued an RFI for 110 fighters without mentioning the requirement of single engine/twin engine mainly to widen competition amongst various fighter manufacturers,” a defense official said. “The main emphasis of this RFI is on transfer of technology and performance based logistics.”

“The ToT requirement is very exhaustive and also includes ToT of avionics, electronic warfare systems including missile approach warner, active electronically scanned array radar, engine and also for setting up the manufacturing unit in India,” retired IAF air marshal and defense analyst Daljit Singh said. “It is indeed a tall order for the OEM to provide so much of ToT.”

The US offer to India are production lines for F-16s and F/A-18s, not F-35s. LM only wants to add F-35 technologies like the radar and other equipment to make the F-16s compatible with the IAF's RFP.

The IAF is more interested in a Rafale production line.

India is not looking to procure F-16,no matter how much you paint some decals and put new headlights. The single engine tender was scrapped because Lockheed/GoUS was not willing to provide any substantive technology. Also buying F-16 to be able to buy F-35 at a future date sounds like blackmail

Then why is Lockheed Martin so aggressively marketing F-16 such that they also have their office in India? It does seem like Americans are serious about and they couldnt be serious if they have havent got a wink or a nod from Indians.

There are a bunch of Indians who think India is super rich and money grows on trees. They some how believe that India would procure 350 Rafales even as India is struggling to procure just 36. They will wake up when reality hits them when Modi announces the F-16 deal.

.
Correct, they have found a sucker to sell their junk to in India. F-16/ 15/ 35 is all junk. Just a swindle to make money.

People here should remember the F-104 white elephant imposed on NATO in the 60's. Just a garbage warplane.Turkey is out the door on the F-35, unless it's policy changes, which we know won't happen to accept a defacto Kurdish State in it's own country........lol

they need a sucker.........and that is India to buy their garbage.

Their aggressive push doesn't guarantee a sale.

It fuking will unless Indian not smart enough! Just rewind memory a little bit.......has the US won any war since WWII?

What's US's wars got to do with India's fighter purchase?

And nope. India is too big and too strong for the US to do anything that can significantly affect our military purchases.

Mattis already wants to provide India a waiver from CAASTA, along with Indian allies in the SCS, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The new tender is anyway a dog a pony show for the Rafale. Read the RFI that the IAF released, the F-16 and even the F/A-18 cannot meet it. IAF cannot simply go out to buy 100+ jets, they have to do it through a competitive tender due to govt rules. And they will simply structure the tender to favour the Rafale, simple.

GoI may be tempted to buy an American fighter, but IAF will decide what they want, and they want Rafale.

Here is my assessment.

F-16 is being retired all world around in favor of F-35. Major operators of F-16 are in Europe and they get their spares from Turkey and USA now where is F-16 left will be Middle east and by the time the plant is setup in India Middle east will also near retiring F-16 as in most new defense jet procurement in middle east no one ordered F-16 so India will get the plant operational in Next 10 years and by that time India will be the sole operator of F-16 in the world because rest of the world would have retired the F-16. So in 2035 when the world will be flying 5th gen India will be mass producing F-16. lol this is the only possible situation that could be fitted in producing F-16 in India.

After what India witnessed in US red flag... Indians would strongly disagree with you.

The only thing which is good, available to India and useful for india is rafale. Rest are only good and available to india but not useful as per future needs of india.

It's foolish to buy things only because they are good. India need things to compete China and Pakistan. Both will have 5th Gen after 10-15 years and this is the place where India is left behind even from Pakistan.

India should look towards this. Even Rafale is just a stop gap thing. A single basic 5th gen is superior to many 4th gen as in war scenarios, there will be a following missile on them before they can find the 5th gen.

Pardon my poor English.
