India needs to point out the differences and see if this convinces America. We chouldn;t close a door immediately till we explore all posibilities. It is in our interest to get the best and the most. America's friendship and partnership is and will be invalluable for India. We would the fools to think otherwise.
Before such a deal is signed we need to incorporate certain criteria ad points intot he contract to prevent this from happening. We should make it a point that we need maximum freedom to use our weapons with no constraints, otherwise no deal. Make it a point to show what the Europeans offer. Even if it is less than American Tech, there is no interference to who we point the missile at when threatened!

US is too bad as a seller.. They think People r always ready to pay premium for the tech, jeopardising the national security in case of any threat.. They r trying to save their face by making this offer.. too many conditions, forget about ToT.. afterall $11b matters for an ailing economy..

America's six clauses to bind India

Even before US President Barack Obama touched down in the country, away from the gaze of the cameras, a script was being written - to make Indian defence subservient to Pentagon. Talk in New Delhi’s defence circles - about a deal that - if through - would give the Americans unprecedented access to Indian defence forces and the communication systems for three services. Top secret documents that would be declassified only ten years from now - in 2020. Documents that show that the US is trying to force India into an agreement that our defence establishment does not need and does not want. The contention is the communications interoperability agreement. Part of this agreement - are six clauses that if India were to agree to - would be humiliating to say the least and completely under US control.
Article 5 of inter-operability agreement says that it will be the Indian defence ministry that shall bear the cost of reconfiguring the communications systems. More interestingly - India can only buy from the US Department of Defence. The other clause is in Article 6 of the agreement which says that the US Department of Defence shall provide defence support - subject to approval - which means - whenever it wants. Article 7 of this top secret agreement points to an effective takeover of our defence communications - since the clause says that it will be American officials who would be training Indian Govt personnel and also conducting inspections of the equipment given to India. Then clause number four - which is in Article 9 of the agreement - that says it will be only US army personnel who will have the right to access and inspect the equipment and material given to India. Article 8, then goes on to say - that the Government of India cannot use its own equipment - without the prior consent of the American Government. So without a nod from Capitol Hill - India can’t touch its own equipment. And the sixth binding cause - which no American equipment provided to India, will be subject to any cooperative development - meaning that India cannot develop further on US prototypes. These are six of the most relevant clauses in this top secret document - that show how America wants to deal with the India- on their terms - wanting to control Indian defence communications. And they have lobbied hard in order to get India to agree but still not been able to convince the defence establishment.
So it is nothing but a clear cut dictatorship in the name of defence deals.. Stay away Americans, we can do our job without you

Umm...yeeeah, which is why I wrote what I did. Plus we dont have the AC-130, and I wish we had followed a policy of non-alignment over our "latch onto the strongest country willing to take us" routine.

F-35 is not ultimate one for India. For immediate need, India can buy more Sukhoi 30 MKI, MIG-29 already coming for Navy/AC and More Tejas can be produced. By 2020, IAF will be game changer in ASIA in any case.

What you want to say ? F-35 will be best for India ? It will take time for induction. India need is immediate as of now. Also By 2017-2022, We will have many 5th Generation Fighter Air Craft. F-35 will not change overall superiority after a decade, I suppose.

MKI is already yesterday with regard to stealth capabilities and imporovements in radar tech. Mig 29 sucks , don;t understand why are going for it in the first place. LCA not ready yet but suitable and given a pass since it is domestic. Good for Asia though, but China.....mmmm

The AC-130 and F-35 have very different roles mate. Maybe you are confused(?)
The USAF is the only user of the AC-130. I doubt if it would ever be exported.
