The Defense Department said that Lockheed Martin Corp. has gotten a $7.3 million modification to a previous contract to support upgrades to the P-3C aircraft operated by Pakistan's navy.

The P-3 Orion is an anti-submarine aircraft made by Lockheed. The contract includes labor, hangar costs, and an upgrade to the plane's acoustic receiver for work on seven aircraft.

Most of the work will be done in Greenville, S.C., and is expected to be finished by November 2011.

The contract announced on Thursday went to a Lockheed unit in Eagan, Minn.

$7.3 mn evetything included is quite cheap. Seems it is a minor upgrade? Any more details?

I loved that! :smitten:

Our Navy is making quite new upgradations!
It isisnt quite stong thought,
but at the same rate, will be!

Navy stilll not learning for how long they keep upgrading when they buy new stuff our navy still lives in 80s era i think

"a $7.3 million modification to a previous contract to support upgrades to the P-3C aircraft operated by Pakistan's navy"

I.e. getting another 7.3 million in addition to the original contract (the amount of which is not specified). So, total contract now is X + 7.3 million.

this 7.3 million went to Lockheed Martin Tactical Defence Systems site in Eagan Minneapolis, part of Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors (MS2) that produces electronic systems and that was formerly known as NESS (Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems).

I believe the original 2007 contract value is $186 million "to continue providing mission system upgrades and sustainment work for seven P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. "

The upgrades will be finished in late 2011. So far how many have been upgraded as the contract was awarded back in 2007 and what is the time schedule overall? If they will upgrade all the aircrafts simultaneously (quite unrealistic), in batches or one by one?

You need funding, most of which goes to Army and Airforce.

We can ask USA to pay for F-16s and Cobra gunships, because we can say we use them in WOT.

What are you going to say for P3-Cs? Or ships? We don't use any naval assets in WOT, which makes bargaining for Navy funding from USA a big No No.

From our own funding, most goes, again to Army and it's flood relief operations/war operations. Rest goes to Airforce for new Aircraft and pending J-10s. So not much is left for Navy.

Pakistan navy is exactly doing what Indian's did i 80' pile up garbage warships & subs..now they have woke up and shopping really good stuff, Pakistan must take that seriously...on the otherhand we were famous for quality rather quantity,,unfortunately since President Musharaf's departure Navy is looking for junk yard sale i.e. P3c why not two or three P-8 rather 7 P-3Cs...U214 gone with the wind...how can we possibly think 2-3 Agosta 90B can headon with 2 Indian Nuclear Subs, 6 Scorpians, many more in the kitty. wake up Pakistan Navy think tank..i love Pakistan that why i am worried man !

I think you misunderstand the difference between the age of the airframe and the equipment contained in it.

There is nothing wrong with obtaining used materiel. Example: The German navy acquired 8 P-3C from the Netherlands to replace its Brequet Atlantiques. The Dutch aircraft had received an entensive MLU shortly before and were in good condition. They were released by the Dutch navy as an economy measure, to facilitate funding of new ships. Fairly new ex-Dutch ships have found their way into NATO navies of Portugal (2x M frigate), Belgium (2x M-frigate), Greece (8 S-frigates) and Baltic states (Tripartite Minehunters). None of these are obsolute, despite their age, as they have been (or are being, in the case of 6 Greek S-frigates) upgraded.

it is reported that majority of fleet is done with upgrades and some 3 aircraft upgrades are pending..
these will be done by end 2011

how many of these P-3C are there? recently 2 or 3 of them were destroyed in a terrorist attack

how many p3c are there in PN fleet? how many new planes we will get through the foreign military sales deal? and how many pld p3c orions we already have?

Total five P3C in current inventories.

Previously two destroyed and now add new two latest P3C. Some say it is replacements and other says it is not replacement that we contract two years ago or so.

not a replacement, apart of previous deal..once deal completed then we would see whether we get replacement or not.
