Its still there. My family lived there for almost 2.5 years. The small town where my father (doctor) was posted had a strange culture. These pics explain them

For example Pakistani doctors rented a house where all can meet on weekend. The owner of that house (a lady) always came full covered but whenever Pakistanis visited her in her house she was wearing dress similar to what ladies in the pics are wearing. I mean legs etc naked. She always asked my mother to give her old, rotten grapes and my mother always wondered why????

The bride use to dance in strange manner. She starts with dopata on her head. Then slowly removed it. and it was a matter of pride for the family that the new bride danced for xyz mins.

But all these activities were indoor. Outdoor if 2 people are talking 90% chance is one of them is government spy. If 3 people are talking one of them is definately a spy.

This is precisely the reason why Shah fell out of favour despite all the good developmental work..somehwere along the lines ge forgot that western innovations have no connection with importing western lewedness. The people of Iran are dignified people, they cannot tolerate their women to turn into town whores.

Shah fell out because he was a dictator and ruled with a heavy hand. Iranians revolted for more freedom (May be many of the man and women in the pictures was at the forefront of revolution) but ended up with even less freedom.

All the Shah thought was that "Westernisation Is Modernization"
It was started by his father Reza Khan in 1930s-1950s women were stripped of there veils,men had to adopt the Pahlavi cap
and before he could do more he got over thrown but when his son came to power(the last shah)
all he did was what you can see in the pictures,introduced western clothes and fashions and held lavish partys in Tehran and Shirazmanily
He was a to see Persia as a modern country(in other ways westernised country,and a cultural crossing point between east and west)

LMAO.I hardly think these pictures represented the majority of Iran. These people are like our elitists in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. The expatriates of Iran cry foul about the Iranian Revolution for the reason that their affluent families got kicked to the curb, and the regime started representing the larger diaspora of the Iranian people. We can find western wanna-bes like this within India and bollywood today.
