Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today warned of action as per the immigration law if anyone tries to go to Israel from Bangladesh as it still does not recognise Israel.
"We remain very strong (on legal ground). Everybody knows it. Our immigration will stop them immediately. Immigration will control those things and they do. They've been doing it for years," he told reporters, adding that it is the home ministry that ensures the enforcement of the law.

The foreign minister made the remarks while responding to questions from reporters after the handover of pharmaceutical products for the people of Palestine to its Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef SY Ramadan at state guesthouse Padma. Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen was also present.
Dr Momen said Bangladesh has not changed its position towards Israel, and no one from Bangladesh can visit Israel.
"If anyone goes there, the person will be liable to be prosecuted. There has been evidence before," said the minister, adding that the government never gave permission to anyone to visit Israel.

He said there is confusion as they have created a new e-passport six to seven months ago deleting "except Israel" to "maintain international standard". "Passport is an identity and it doesn't relate to foreign policy."
The minister said the foreign policy of Bangladesh remains the same as it was during Bangabandhu's time. "We don't recognise Israel."

Why these ministers lie with the straight face and expect that others are brainless. Why not be honest and straight and admit it travel to Israel restrictions are lifted and end of the story. BD have joined UAE, Saudi, Bahrain and Oman club of countries who have cemented their ties under the table.

Wouldnt it be just easy to put back exception about Israel in the passport than doing all this charade?

.
Then what's the point of the exercise of removing Israel from Bangladeshi passports? It would've been if the Foreign Ministry just reiterated its position of not recognizing Israel. End of story.

Now it went through this convoluted exercise of removing Israel from passports, still not recognizing Israel, and now threatening to prosecute anyone who goes to Israel!

What the hell is Bangladesh saying?

It's called playing your cards with foresight and care.

Can any of the Bangladeshi posters explain what their reasoning is to removing two to three words and at such a time like this? Some of our leaders were good friends with Yasser Arafat and if I remember there was a whole Bangladeshi regiment which fought alongside PLO during their battle against the Jordanians?

UAE/KSA pressure is my guess. they probably threatened to deport Bd nationals and rohingya.

We won't burn down our own country over something the government does... That's us harming our own country...

The sorts who do these sorts of things have been taught a good lesson in the past few months.. so it's only logical they're nowhere to be seen right now.

All for the better... Burning public property down does nothing to Israel.
