Dr Salam is a very respected physicist here in India as well. i remember a memorial lecture at IIT Delhi when he was remembered with great respect. For a man of such stature, it is incorrect to see him as citizen of certain country or member of certain religious community. He worked for Electromagnetic and weak nuclear force unification theory, his work also unifies whole of scientific community across nations.

A lot of peole have a very narrow and negative mentality and often criticize things or people who otherwise should be celebrated. Luckily scientific and academic community is able to raise itself beyond such trivial things.
one important reason why western countries have done so well in various spheres of life is the fact that an achiever is seen as a hero and not in terms of his religous belief, cast, race sex etc.

PS: I wish to draw everyone's attention towards an equation written over Dr. Salam's head (just below below word Beta decay)

This is a neutron decay equation. neutron --> proton + electron + antineutrino
Proton carries positive charge and mass, electron the negative charge and anti-neutrino is chargeless, massless carries only angular momentum.

To draw a rough anology with human civilization

God created a neutral world and mankind. Some people chose substance and positive energy, some very little substance and negative energy and some (which @ spring onion, i believe is reffering to, without nationalities) no substance or thought but are just parasites.

Science has no boundaries, a true scientist doesn't give a flying fark about nations, nationalities and other such base human constructs. I suppose that's why I could never become one myself.
