KARACHI:
Pakistan International Airlines Chairman Nasser NS Jaffer set a new precedent on Monday, becoming the first head of the often-criticised national carrier to board a flight as last passenger who got the worst seat in the last row.

Jaffer was travelling to Karachi from Lahore on PK-305 after attending the high-profile inauguration of Multan Airport when he chose to wait for all the passengers to get on board and then preferred to sit in last row, on seat 33C, said the airline crew.

“He spoke with people around him and asked them how they feel about traveling with PIA,” said an airline official. “Obviously the crew was trying its best to please him.” While the PIA chairman was satisfied with the overall service of the airline, he did not like the meal, said the official.

Jaffer, a leading businessman who also heads his family-controlled Jaffer Group of Companies, has a habit of observing the service delivery aspects of the airline himself. Employees say he often goes to the airport early in the morning to mingle with passengers or just to see how the airline staff at check-in counters behave.

The government had a tough time convincing him to join the airline, which has suffered from multiple controversies in the past. PIA has one of the most bloated staffs in the world. With 18,338 employees, PIA has an employee-aircraft ratio of 690, compared to a global average of around 150 employees per aircraft.

Imran Khan selected this man as chairman. Nawaz fake PM, liar, India praiser, saudi slave, CIA agent

PIA is really behind compared to its competitors, especially thanks to ME carriers who have used up our market. Now PIA can only lure more customers by more personal service and patriotism.

man, you guys need to seriously reflect. if this is the threshold for a good gesture to set an example .... nothing to say.

last seat of the plane? must have been a bumpy ride!!

End this dramay baazian and get ride of this white elephant.
If we sell it now, it will sell for peanuts and the new owner will lay off thousands of workers. If we improve it and then sell, we can earn a good sum and most can retain their jobs (bigger fleet were getting this year).

Plus people will complain on how govt sold this to their in laws or friends for cheap price.

Brother,

Privatisation of National carrier will be the huge loss for state of Pakistan, because we all knew that National carriers always served the National Interests as per commanded by state!

hope u understand what i meant to say!

We have already wasted billions, and it should be downsized to make it profitable either govt. do it herself, or the buyer do it. Govt. should do what's good for country rather than doing populous politics.

Can you please elaborate what national interests are these? Pain In A$$ survives on bailouts. Even Pakistanis who have other options do not want any business with PIA. 18,000+ employees. Sell it or give it for free and I am sure we will be still saving our money because PIA is sure to ask for PKR billions in bailouts.

Lets privatise this white elephant. It will be good both for PIA and for country as well

its PIA dramabazian... what is difference in sitting at back seat or front seat.. its same unless its business or 1st class. just drramabazain..

who's "we" here? lol....you get nothing, whether pia sells for lots of money or for peanuts...but if it's making a loss, you pay in your taxes. But if it makes a profit, you won't get a piece of it...
