And here's some official detail on timelines on the LCA Tejas Mk.2 fresh from Parliament, confirming Livefist reports on operational clearance nowhere before 2022. Here's Minister of Defence Manohar Parrikar's full statement in Parliament today on the LCA Mk.2:

The project for design and development of Light combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas Mk-II was sanctioned in November 2009 at a cost of Rs.2431.55 Crore with Probable Date of Completion (PDC) of December 2018. However, because of delay in finalisation of Engine Contract, the project could start only in December 2013. As a result, maiden flight of first Prototype and Operational Clearance are likely to be completed by December 2019 and December 2022, respectively. There after induction.

Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Bengaluru is the Nodal Agency for design and development of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-II. ADA has not entered into any collaboration with European Aircraft Manufacturers who had participated in the Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) tenders for development of Tejas Mk-II. However, ADA may like to avail consultancy from some of them.

Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-II would be an improved version of LCA Mk-I. Some of the new systems / technologies, like Active Electrically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, Unified Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, On Board Oxygen Generation System (OBOGS), Upgraded Avionics, etc. are to be included in LCA Tejas Mk-II to make the aircraft more contemporary. Technologies, systems engineering and experience gained during development of LCA Tejas Mk-II would benefit the development of Fifth Generation Aircraft indigenously.

For GOD sake please accept your failure, end this project and move on. South Korean Light fighter can be good alternate.

Dude, how is a failure tell me, Its delayed ya Damn Delayed... Why the mk2 is taking time is because IAF is not some poor unprofessional Force, they want their fighter to be in certain level. Tejas mk1 except the radar is itself once of the best in its class in south Asia, and the radar problem will be taken care with new AESA ones. But still why IAF don't want them ??? Becasue it doesn't meet their Specification and almost all of them will be met in MK2 but for DRDO standards it'll take time.

would you like to give the DSI tech along with the thunders to replace these LCA

This is something we all were knowing. Isn't it?
Well the only frustrating thing (as I perceive) is the rate of production by HAL. Opposed to their promise, they have delivered just 1 aircraft till now( they promised 2). And they will deliver another 8 next year, means it will take us 2017 to raise the first squadron . And probably 2019 to complete the full order of mk1.

Till that time they are proposing an Mk1 with AESA, so if we take into consideration that IAF will have to induct more 2 sqadrons , then it takes 2023.

So nothing to be surprised as we will never be able to induct mk2 before 2023 even if we complete its FOC.

Radar of Mk1 is Elta 2032 Multi-mode Radar Better than Any Other PAF Currently operates

Ya.. but there was a problem with Con of the fighter that it limited the range of the radar to almost half

Age can not with her said Shakespeare.....
So in all essence Tejas should be designated....... Cleopatra.
Or perhaps it's the best stealth aircraft ever produced.... even after two decades it remains invisible.

don't you think that is too much for a Stealth plane ?? :D
something we should not forget , that Tejas is dragged by a truck , so our Radar's and Fighters can not detect them , and our pilots will be expecting to have them in Air , but they will be on Road ... nice Saajish from IAF hahaha

LCA Mk2 is Scheduled to get Operational by Squadron By 2021-2022 Whats New Here

and i believe

LCA Stealth Characteristics are Better Due to Use of High Carbon Fibre Materiel's Yes Just Compare The the RCS of Both LCA and Jf-17.
