A weapons integration facility to manufacture Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), said to be the first-of-its-kind in the country in the private sector, will be set up in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh at a total cost of Rs 2,135 crore.

Wem Technologies Private Limited is partnering with Lockheed Martin, the largest defence equipment manufacturer in the US, to set up this facility, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said.

“We have decided to allot 350 acres of land for this facility spread over Vatluru and Bhogapuram villages near Eluru in West Godavari district. In the first phase, they will invest Rs 635 crore and provide employment to 650 persons. In all, 2510 jobs will be created when the facility becomes fully operational,” Chandrababu told a press conference here last night.

Wem currently has orders worth Rs 560 crore on hand, he said.

Other details about the project or its Indian promoters are awaited. — PTI

This is sudden. And LM helping to start a LCA manufacturing facility ? Surprising.

But what is the need of LM in manufacturing LCA ????
Or maybe there is some mistake . Maybe LM is going to make F-16 in this facility.

Partnering with Lockheed Martin to manufacture LCA ? :o:
Did we end up with some deal on F-16s ?

NOTHING TO DO WITH TEJAS
I think it is for the production of the latest F-16 Block 70/72 Super Viper as part of make in India. That's why LM is involved.

WEM technology is a UK based cloud services company
Vem technology is a hyderabad company involved with DRDO projects and is more on electro optics seeker tech. LM was talking with Vem for some work on vehicle and ship mounted gyros combat systems

Also Wem i dont think has done any work for Indian Defence offsets or projects whereas Vem does regularly.

This report seems to be a bit wrong.. Either big time Typo error or wrong reporting.

LM partnership will mean it must have approval from GOI under MII JV route. But none of the places like http://makeinindiadefence.com/ shows any Industrial licence for Wem or LM indian shop.

Whereas Industrial Licence approval for Vem is as below

Notice the Sr No 337 "Airplanes specially designed for Military application"

Also this

Thats for UAVs

Original work

This is the other licence it has got for basically missile launch mechanism

So i sincerely think its Vem and its about LRUs being made like may be L&T.

But i dont think LM is involved as of now .. will wait for more concrete news on LM involvement

Actually there are printing mistakes in this news by PTI. The company is VEM technologies not WEM. It is one of the leading aerospace & defence companies in India involved in making parts of aircrafts, missiles, rockets,UAVs etc. They are partnering with Lockheed Martin to set up the facility not in manufacturing LCA.
They will built parts of LCA. It is not a assembly line of LCA. LCA will be assembled only by HAL. According to news it is a weapons integration facility. This facility is being built to integrate range of missiles, rockets, artillery shells and bombs. VEM technologies manufacturing abilities are following -

I said the same here
LM was talking with Vem for some work on vehicle and ship mounted gyros combat systems

Now what it will do for LCA in new facility
  • Existing Elctro optics for weapons and sub systems
  • Precision machining, casting , machining aspect and make work for sub assembly part for LCA
  • Composites fabrication, associated electroplating and heat treatment

VEM Tech is sure as hell not assembling any sort of LCA right now. It's definitely up and coming firm in this space, but you're not going to skip TATAs, Mahindras, to VEM. They've however gained a lot of gains in producing munitions, electronics that DRDO develops.

I knew from reading the first few lines that this was the Indian media at its finest- ill-informed, hyperbolic and totally careless.

1)VEM may produce some LRUs for the LCA but they aren't setting up a production line of their own.

2)The LM link is entirely unrelated to the LCA activities and there is nothing conrete about what VEM will be doing with LM but it certainly WON'T be anything like producing the F-16 in India.

Anyways, @PARIKRAMA bro, AP really seems to be trying hard to attract specifically defence OEMs to "make"/operate in their state.

It's is one day older than PTI. First published in India today group.

It's about WEM technology private limited not VEM technology.

This is for weapon integration. Not sure what the heck is this sentence means "Weapon integration facility to manufacture LCA"

The investment is huge. With over order hook of 650 cr in hand they are investing 2500 cr. So there may be LM involved in Tejas MK1A upgrade.

Don't be amazed if we struck some deal with LM on F16s too.

If so why they need to invest 2500 cr in New facility.
