Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Wednesday took notice of an attack by lawyers on the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) in Lahore.

The chief minister ordered an investigation into the attack and summoned a report from the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) and provincial secretary of specialised health and medical education. The premier summoned a report from the provincial chief secretary and inspector general.

The lawyers were protesting against a video that went viral on social media yesterday, in which a doctor is seen narrating an encounter with some lawyers in front of a group. According to the doctor, a group of lawyers had gone to the inspector general and told him to charge "two doctors" under Section 7 of ATA. He narrated that the IG had refused while the lawyers had urged him to press charges, saying "they could save face" that way.

A large number of lawyers gathered outside PIC on Wednesday. The protest, however, turned violent as the lawyers initially closed off entry and exit points to the hospital. According to reports and footage, the protesters also damaged equipment inside, and broke windows of the hospital as well as cars parked outside. Protesters smashed doors of emergency theatres and staff had to run out to save themselves, according to reports.

Patients, some in ambulances, were unable to reach the hospital while those receiving treatment were left unattended due to the chaos.

The lawyers also attacked media personnel on the site with stones. A DawnNewsTV female reporter, Kinza Malik, was injured and her phone was snatched from her.

Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hasan Chauhan, who had arrived at the hospital, said that "lawyers had tried to kidnap" him. In a video, he is seen being manhandled by a group of protesting lawyers.

Police is using tear gas and baton charge in an attempt to disperse the lawyers.

Lahore DIG Operations also arrived at the hospital. He said that those who took the law into their own hands will be dealt with strongly.

Young Consultants Association announced a nationwide strike after the violent protest. President of the YCA Dr Hammad Butt said that tomorrow no consultant will be on duty all across Punjab.

1. Buzdar needs to resign. He seems unable to do anything other than take notice.

2. The police officers who stood by and watched and their senior officers who have created and sustained this culture of "don't take action against anyone powerful" need to be sacked.

What the?

What kind of animals attack an institute such as heart disease centre where seriously sick patients are treated.

These lawyers should be fined and punished to the maximum for endangering the lives of people.

People have no mercy left anymore.

Woh anti riot gear pehn kar hospital main jata?
It's not duty of prime minister chief minister or any other minister to control riots
Only lawyers should be punished
Police ko clear instructions deni chahiye keh aisi situations main Kya karna ha
NooraLawyers are behind this
Wakeel kisi bhi party ka ho aisa hi hota ha
They defend murderers for money

Zardari was released on bail by Islamabad High Court

Lawyers are attacking hospital

Connect the dots :)

Give police freehand and govt needs to stand by police, Incase high court try to blackmail govt. It will take 2 days for lawyers to vanish like they never existed.

Bhai ji, he is a political leader, ultimately he has to take responsbility for the government he is running. Punjab police has been a joke. Since PTI came into power we had all that drama of appointing a new chief and then unappointing him. We then had Saiwala massacre, now we have this incident where lawyers attack a hospital and police stood by and watched. If it had been normal people doing this, police would have intervened, called backup and had the place locked down and had vans full of arrested people.

As it was lawyers police did not act out of fear. Fear for their jobs, what will senior officers say? Senior officers did not act out of fear for their jobs, what will political leadership say? This culture were orders are required from the very top before action against people of influence is taken must end. The person responsible for ending it was Buzdar, he has failed, or people under him have failed. He needs to either leave himself, or sack those who failed.

Punjab police has been a joke
Us na joke banaya ha ya experienced Sharif brothers na?
Lawyers ko arrest karain punishment to in ko court sa mil nhi skti Chalo thori thanay main thukai kardain

Fear for their jobs
It wasn't fear of jobs they always behave like this with every crowd
I have seen common people blocking roads and destroying properties in the presence of police

Sharif brothers have been out of place for 18 months now. In 18 months how hard is it for the CM to write a letter to every police station or every senior officer, or even to invite them to a meeting and order them to take action to uphold the law against influential people as they would against normal people?

It takes 1 day at the most.

Why are you defending the indefensible? We are Pakistani, not PTI PPP or PMLN.

Either he sacks those responsible for not taking action, or he leaves himself. It is not unreasonable.

Again fear for their jobs. They don't know who's crowd it is, with who's blessing that crowd has assembled. They won't act until told to act. It is clear that they have the training, equipment and manpower to control crowds, but always await orders from politicians, incase it harms their careers.

Why are you defending the indefensible
You are British and don't know anything about Pakistan is liye yeh fazool propaganda na Karo
Controlling a mob is not an easy task and right now some of the lawyers are under police custody and rest are mafror

Two days??? man, 2 hours are enough.. just do a media blackout and beat the hell out of the bastards who played with the lives of patients.. After that, charge these lawyers under ATA and send them to jail... don't start hearing their cases for the next six months at least.. beat the hell out of them everyday till the first hearing..

They ran away after police started firing tear gas
But why they attacked hospital?

I second your proposal!

ATA is the corrrect section for FIR. And anyone who support these terrorists must be booked as facilitator...

When you don't act on smaller crimes you encourage bigger ones...

Rule of Law needs to be established... and for this we need Free Judiciary without NooraJudges installed over past 40 years.

Video evidence is their. Anyone in riot, Cancel their law practice license immediately.

Than start prosecuting them for negligence Homocide, gang violence and destruction of govt property.

I'm British, I know how real police work. Controlling a mob is a piece of cake for UK police. Every week up and down the country millions of people pour in an out of football stadiums. A few hundred police ensure that process goes smoothly without violence, even though the crowds are often drunk. Football had a massive culture of violence in the UK, the police were given the order to end it; they did.

During my youth i spent one Eid evening on Wilmslow road in Manchester. Never again. It was full of scumbags and other wannabe gangster types. People were drunk, fighting, violating traffic rules, rowdy. At one point the police decided enough was enough. Within 10 minutes they forced thousands of people off the roads, either into restaurants or off home. They swept the streets, forced horses at crowds clearing the path.

You Pakistani seem to think everything in Pakistan is a special case, it's not.
