India wont be getting it this year. But next year or in a year or two. Did you see the countries opposing it? NZ, Turkey, Austria and China atleast publicly hasnt voiced its opposition at NSG meet. Yes. In the meet at Washington, it didnt oppose.
While NZ and Austria can be taken care of US, it will be Turkey which needs little nudging. US has to make full effects of its diplomacy to make Turkey agree. When China is isolated, it will give in. Simple as that.

Secondly, if China wants Pakistan in NSG, its well within its rights to canvass for Pakistan within the members. Whether the members want it or not is left to them. But honestly there will lot more members need convincing in case of Pakistan.

China or Pakistan cannot expect US to do canvassing for its efforts. Period.

Highly placed diplomatic sources revealed to The News on Saturday evening that Pakistan applied for membership at the eleventh hour on May 18 last, which was the deadline for applying for membership.

Pakistan had told everyone that they are applying a week or so ago. The US (at multiple levels) had told Pakistan that any country is welcome to apply. The decision has to be made by the entire NSG body (48 countries I think). Not by one country as others have a right to veto. Now these stupid articles are surfacing without any reason, truth or logic!!

This article is total garbage and written to cover up Pakistan's foreign policy's diplomatic failures and chaotic existence (sadly). I've said it a million times, if any militarily can design and run foreign policies, economies and governments, all civil, modern and educated countries would have generals running them today. No military can ever be successful at designing a foreign policy, executing it, growing the economy and running the system. If you notice, Pakistan has ONLY been going backwards for the past 40-50 years specifically due to this problem.

The NSG membership is important for India but not so much for any material gain. Its importance is mostly that it strengthens the legitimacy of India's nuclear program and permits India to have some say in making the rules of the global nuclear order, all without joining the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT). Since the NSG, under American pressure, had in 2008 already permitted India to engage in nuclear commerce with other countries, what China's veto does mostly is hurt India's pride but not much more.

Just because there is no Nawaz Sharif in the picture, it suddenly becomes Garbage? What a logic. If you care to check the events of the past dates you will realise that majority of what the article says is true. Pakistan in the last few days really up its efforts with giving briefings to diplomats of other countries and phoning them. If Nawaz wasnt playing house it should have been him taking the lead just like Modi was for India. But apparently that would have acted against his business interests in India and elsewhere. So its better for him to stay aside and let other people do the work. For now Indian attempt for NSG has be thwarted despite all the US muscle behind it and thats a success. I will ignore the rhetoric as always as I could careless about NS or others. But obviously you had to bring that up to change the message I had written in my posts and distort reality.

Read the following links, everyone and their dog knew Pakistan is applying for the NSG. The game had started a while ago. There was nothing that happened at the 11th hour!!!!

The first link takes you back to the end of May and you can clearly see the US told Pakistan to apply so that the group can decide. Everyone knew in May this was coming, Through scare tactics and hiding the truth and showing failure as success has always been the case in Pakistan. 50+ years of backwards marching under the powerful guys in uniform is a testament to that.

Our foreign office, by which I mean the professional civil servants who actually run the country, not the buffonish window dressing called "politicians" have managed to stay on top of this. It is a fact that no one in the diplomatic community saw this coming and most certainly not the "stay in its fortress embassy except for the ride to and from the airport" US contingent.

I don't think anyone realistically expects us to get in (in a world that makes sense, Pakistan, India and Israel should all be members, but this world does not make sense); but we can certainly help in putting blocks towards India and worst case even if we don't we can get enough of a justification to get suppliers who are well inclined to use to trade with us bilaterally.
