Lahore is 'Paris of Pakistan,' tweets William Hague

You talk a lot of **** about shahbaz sharif, any "painful" incident in your life that has to do something with shahbaz sharif?
ah this disgusts when their faces cross my head, yack !

he said what he said after meeting the clown shebaz sharif, which was obvious to please the nonsensical claim or maybe he gave himself a good laugh after saying so or like someone said he hates Paris this much :omghaha:

He was talking about "cultural importance" of what Paris is to France, Lahore is to Pakistan and our Noon leaguer friends jumped on it as if gold was flowing in Lahore canal instead of dirty water.

well be honest, he said it so because a our clown in the town claims he would make Lahore like Paris.. and when he says that he doesnot compare it for cultural heritage, but makes some tall claims.. and what william hague said is to endorse that tall claim just to make us look more stupefied !

@cb4 - Hates gonna hate but we both know that Lahore Lahore ehhh ! :yay:

Despite its faults, no other Pakistani City comes remotely close to it in its splendor & beauty ! :smitten:

Likewise our Non-Noon-Leaguer friends do have the tendency of having a verbal diarrhea sprouting sh*t everywhere on the mere mention of something good about Lahore, Punjab or the N-League ! As if any other City or Province, for that matter, has done anything to brag about; if they aren't busy killing each other than they they're busy making their women look like foOking American Indian Tents walking about !

He is also from Lahore. But from his posts, i can judge most likely from Defence/Cantt. I like the term 'burger class' for these low lives.

I'm assuming he's just being nice.

I've been to both Lahore and Paris, it's like comparing a diamond to a shiny rock.

Mere off hand tweet which as usual everyone has read too much into.
It neither flatters Pakistan as it is not compared to another country nor offends it.

this bird view is of far fetched outskirts of Lahore wall city. which essentially means that this is managed/developed by LDA/Corporation.

Is this what we call city management? I cannot help myself but how can even people live in these boxes? even the drains are not covered and its 21st century and some mindless freaks call it Paris, get a life losers !!

And Raiwind is the Versailles of south Asia :omghaha:

Have you ever been to any of the old areas in any of the ancient European cities? Do that and we'll talk.

Also, I can't think of many big cities (if at all) that have as many open spaces and greenery as Lahore does. I'm sorry but Lahore is gorgeous. Don't really care what a brit does or does not say. Could it be improved? Of course, by loads.

Considering the state that Lahore is in currently, it's a poorly made comparison.

gr8 compliments..any specific similarties between Lahore and Paris?

Actually, I agree with this guy. I had the honor to visit Lahore just a while ago. And I've been to Paris more than a couple of times. I wouldn't have thought about comparing Lahore to Paris but Hague's comparison is actually very realistic, some in good ways and some in bad ways.

For those of you who have been to Paris and have seen it, would know that it has very nice areas and the water views, a lot of tourist attractions, etc. But then it has some areas that can entirely be classified as something from the third world countries or small communities that still represent the "old" times or historical city from the 18 or early 1900's. Lahore is the same exact way.
It can be taken in a bad way but that's not how I am intending it to sound like. Lahore has very modern areas, some of which would make you feel like you live in the US or the Europe, plenty of historical - tourist attractions and then, plenty of places that are very old and historic communities still representing the 1800's. Paris is the same way so I totally agree with him. However, to give him credit, I wouldn't have known or thought about a correlation between the two on my own. So a very smart guy there called Mr. Hague!!
However, I would also compare Karachi to Bombay. A LOT of similarities in the local culture, people's mentality, style, the way they carry themselves and of course the trade or the big metroplex look and feel and the running around like a smaller unplanned New York city

Of course its no Paris, however, its not just a shinning rock either. On an infrastructural level loads and loads can and needs to be done. But it is still a very beautiful city. I mean just look at how green it is. And then there's the history, the ancient architecture, the people, the food, etc., etc. In early spring and late fall it's unbelievably gorgeous.

Also work is being done; the newer areas are pretty well planned, special emphasis is given on trees almost everywhere in the city, roads are pretty nice, the inner city is being restored and renovated, the city has been driving towards a more cleaner environment and so on and so forth.

ps: Before leaving the country for my current long stint I made sure that I visited every place of note at least once. So four days before leaving I convinced a friend to hop along. We started with the Fajr prayers at the Badshahi Mosque, roamed around the old city until the Fort was opened at 11. Then checked out Minar-e-Pakistan, checked out lawerence gardens, Jahangir's tomb, went zen driving on the ring-road, even checked out the Zoo but missed out the Shalamar Gardens. Took us two days and we did it all while fasting in the summer with half the city dug up. Loved it.
