Kuwait to order Boeing F/A-18 fighters worth $3 bn: Source | Zee News

New York: Kuwait is planning a $3 billion order for 28 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet advanced fighter jets from Boeing, a source close to the deal told AFP Thursday.

The order, which could be officially confirmed in the coming days, marks an important victory for Boeing over European rivals, which had been pitching the Typhoon Eurofighter to the Gulf country.

It's a good fighter, no surprise it won.

Don't understand why they didn't pic the F16-Blk61? Besides the F18 C/D to E/F angle.

F-18s are built by Boeing, while the F-16s are built by Lockheed.

Kuwait already has knowledge of F-18s and the necessary workforce has been imported to service the fighter/bomber.

F-16 Block 60's R&D was financed by the UAE, any fighter Lockheed sells will require that it pay UAE some royalties.

The price difference between the F18 & F16 Blk 60 isn't that much and considering the fact that you get a reliable SABR radar vs AN/APG79, built in IRST, fiber optic bus, etc etc. it would have been well worth the effort.

Maintenance would not have been that big an issue, considering Abu Dhabi is barely an hours flight away.

 how cute, you think Dubai knows how to service their F-16s. If i'm not mistaken, even Turkiye isn't allow full access to the F-16 components.

But anyways, most of the components in the F-18 and F-16 are different, just because they're both made in America doesnt mean they are similar to a varying degree.

Now I do agree if your spending $3 billion on 28 jets whats an extra $100 million in logistical costs? Well read below;

Somewhere close to 1,500+ F-18s produced, while the F-16s rivals with probably ~5,000+. Now with economics and the supply chain introduced companies are naturally going to form around the F-16.

And here's how the F-18 counteracts the F-16. The F-18 has a guaranteed "In-Service Support" or something promised by the US Navy, which pretty much says that any foreign nation buying the F-18 will have full tech support and life cycle maintenance and troubleshooting through the USN on a direct contact with the engineers at Boeing.

Hate to burst your bubble, but when you don't know something best to keep quite!!

1) You posted a pic of an F16 A/B cockpit. This is what an F16 E/F Blk 60 cockpit looks like this:

2) Turkey license manufactures NEW F16's and does complete MRO's / MLU's as well.

@waz @Jungibaaz @Manticore Can we please merge this thread, with this one:

Kuwait said to be in frame for Boeing fighter jets deal

So these old F-18s will be gifted to Malaysia for their efforts in Yemen :) Right?
