JEDDAH: Engineers Welfare Forum (EWF) in conjunction with Institution of Engineers Pakistan (IEP) organized a seminar on natural resources, which was presided over by Pakistan's Consul General Abdul Salik Khan, on Wednesday.
Abdul Wahab Noor Wali, a member of the board of trustees of the UK-based Islamic Relief and former secretary general of World Assembly of Muslim Youth, was the chief guest.
The consul general said Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were making efforts to promote cooperation on high-tech engineering, food security and other fields.
Wali said while deliberating on natural resources, manpower instrumental in building the economies of China and Singapore should not be overlooked.
"So, always consider proper utilization of manpower, as it can always be used to suit the local circumstances," he said. "In this ever changing world, you need to set your target and make strategic planning to achieve it."
Masroor Elahi, secretary general of EWF, who conducted the event, prayed for the Saudi diplomat Hassan Al-Qahtani who was gunned down in Karachi recently. He also prayed for others killed in terrorist attacks. He urged the Pakistani government to take extra measures for the safety and security of diplomats in particular.
Shahid Saeed Khan said this would be one of the biggest projects in the region and would be an example of high volume of transportation.
A paper on Pakistan's natural resources deplored that not a single dam has been built in the country over the last 45 years, the period in which China and India had constructed several large and small dams. "If we don't take immediate positive steps, we may face famine in the country," he warned. EMAAR Projects Director at KAEC Rabigh Ramesh Tharwani spoke about the King Abdullah Economic City project in Rabigh, which is aimed at taking the Kingdom toward industrialization.
"Rabigh will have all the modern technology to enhance industrialization," he said.
