You guys do realize shooting down a US Drone isn't an act of war? Simply because the US has insisted that as long as no boot or person enters what is considered Pakistan internationally, then no breach of sovereignty has occurred. The US would not be foolish to lose Pakistan as an ally -- unless they want to go all 'bush' and use India as a complete base of operations in a region otherwise hostile and China/Russia-sided.
It's all about diplomacy. Will Khan only take military action after all diplomatic approaches fail? If he's as clever as he seems, then yes. Remember US Sanctions do hurt and are not the way forward - clever diplomacy and saying 'no' are. That said, the situation will change considerably by 2014 by the pull out of US troops from Afghanistan (and thus, the strengthening of the Taliban), with only smaller bases around the country -- Pakistan would be an asset better not lost. The battle for Central Asia, economically, is the new front-line in a cold war more about economic dominance than ideology.
