Khalistan Thrives.

‘Beheaded, my brother became a Sikh martyr’

ATTARI: ``I am proud of my brother, he has not been killed, he has attained martyrdom for the honour of Sikh religion. He refused to convert to Islam and preferred to lay down his life,'' an inconsolable Taranjit Singh told TOI here on Monday, a day after his cousin's beheaded body was found.

Pakistani Taliban had ruthlessly beheaded Jaspal Singh and Mahal Singh while two others - Gurjit Singh and Gurvinder Singh - are still in their custody. Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Sham Singh, however, said only Jaspal Singh had been killed.

Jaspal's cousin, Taranjit, who lives in Lahore, has been in India for the past three weeks on a pilgrimage. He revealed that the kidnapping of Sikhs by Taliban was not only for money, but also to threaten the small Sikh community of Pakistan to embrace Islam.

Taranjit, who was on his way back to Pakistan, said: ``Had it only been about money, we (the Sikh community of Peshawar) would have contributed and paid the hefty ransom of Rs 3 crore and forgotten about it for the sake of their lives. But they (Taliban) had forced Jaspal to cut his hair and convert to Islam to which my brother refused and they beheaded him.'' He said Jaspal had sacrificed his life for the religion and to protect his identity.

"I have to go and see how the situation is there for us,'' he said, unsure of the fate of the Sikh community in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) bordering Afghanistan. He, however, admitted that he was afraid to return home.

Kirpal Singh, brother-in-law of the victim, said, ``Jaspal and his mother were also to accompany us and they had even got the visa for pilgrimage, but then he was abducted.'' Jaspal is survived by four children, including two daughters, and his widow, he added.

Sikhs in general were safe in Pakistan, but in FATA and other areas under control of Orkazai Agency, Taliban set their own rules, Kirpal Singh said.

Pakistani Sikhs want to flee to India

ISLAMABAD/CHANDIGARH: Hundreds of fear-stricken Sikhs clamoured to escape to India after the Pakistani Taliban beheaded one of three Sikh men they abducted over a month ago. The killing was condemned in India by the government and political parties.

The body of Jaspal Singh was found in Pakistan's restive tribal region Sunday, triggering panic in the small community that has faced the ire of the Taliban for some time.

Jaspal Singh was kidnapped along with two other Sikhs from Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency near the provincial capital Peshawar, DawnNews and other Pakistani media reported.

BBC, however, said two Sikhs had been done to death, and identified the second man as Mastan Singh.

The two companions of Jaspal Singh, identified by a Pakistani website as Gurvinder Singh and Gurjit Singh, are reportedly still being held captive by the militants.

The abducted Sikhs -- their number varying from three to four -- were seized 34 days ago. The Taliban demanded Rs.3 crore as ransom for their release, media reports said.

According to *****************, the kidnapping occurred in an area where the Pakistan government has virtually no control.

Since the Taliban began enforcing "jaziya" in the tribal belt, particularly Aurakzai Agency, many Sikhs fled to cities elsewhere in the country fearing for their lives.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction and murder but members of the Sikh community blamed it on the Pakistani Taliban, which has close ties with al-Qaida, and said they wanted to quit Pakistan for good.

"We want to return to India but we are not getting the visas. The Taliban keep demanding jaziya (religious tax) from us," Arvind Singh, a cousin of the beheaded Jaspal Singh, told a Pakistani TV channel.

He said the business interests of Sikhs were suffering in Pakistan because of the Taliban.

Another Sikh man said they were living in fear and that they wanted to go to the Sikh holy city Amritsar to start life anew.

Muslim-majority Pakistan is home to over 32,000 Sikhs, according to one account. Many of them came to Pakistan after the Taliban took power in Kabul in the 1990s and enforced strict Islamic laws.

India denounced Jaspal Singh's killing as "barbaric". "We condemn the barbaric act of the Taliban," Minister for External Affairs S.M. Krishna said in New Delhi.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Sikh religious parliament, and the Punjab government Monday reacted angrily and urged New Delhi's intervention to save Sikhs in the area bordering Afghanistan.

"This is condemnable. The central government should take up the matter with the Pakistan government to ensure the safety of Sikhs in that area," SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal too demanded India's intervention. "The government should not sleep over this matter. The life of Sikhs should be protected."

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asked the government to mount "diplomatic pressure" on Pakistan to ensure the release of the abducted Sikhs.

"It is a serious issue and there is a need to talk to Pakistan," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said in New Delhi.

In Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Sikh groups called for a shutdown to protest the killing.

Windjammer please refrain from posting such articles and picture as the only thing they do is flame and cause emotions to flare. I don’t know what you plan to achieve from such a thread and your only causing more Indian’s to feel hate towards not only you but Pakistan itself. If you want to know the real story then here it is

1. The Khalistan issue the result of Bindrawale misguiding many punjabi’s into believing that the government was committing atrocities on its people. Punjab is one of the most fertile and rich area’s of India and such news was only spread by him and his followers to gain support for thei cause. It is well documented that Bindrawale himself indulged in kidnapping and murder and went against all things that the Sikh religion stand for. Just the fact that he kept weapons inside the hold Golden temple is ample proof of how one can bend religion to his/her own needs.
2. The issue is totally dead except for places such as the UK and Canada specially because many Sikhs took refuge here after operation Blue star and the communal violence that followed. The new generation of these Sikhs have been misguided by their parents and now have become radicalized even without knowing the whole story. Most don’t even know why they want Khalistan. I live in Toronto and neighboring areas such as Brampton and Mississauga have quite a number of such radicals and that is where this so called “Freedom Struggle”lives on.
3. Sikhs and Punjab are an integral part of India and their contribution to the nation is second to none. From Dr.Manmohan Singh himself to Gurdas Mann, Harbajhan Singh, Bishan Singh Bedi, Bhaghat Singh, Darhmendra and the list goes on and on.
a. List of famous Sikhs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Please my brother stop posting such inflammatory articles and pictures as they really serve no purpose. Its an humble request from me.

Regards

DD

Nothing of the sort had happend.

To the thread starter.....

Please list the last known incident and date of a murder, terrorist attack, agitation, violence due to insurgency agaisnt the Indian state or Indian rule in Punjab on account of "Pro-Khalistani" Indians......
Do keep in mind that in line with our constitution, we do provide free speech and freedom of thought to all individuals within the boundaries of law......

Posting pictures of a handful of Sikhs protesting in a foreign country does not make any difference to us.... Khalistan can thrive all it wants....hell they can have a govt., meaningless printed foreign currency (might help revive the economy of certain countries) and a shrine to Bindhawale in Pak if need be....as long as this exists outside of India.....

Now if you dont have the answers to the said questions.....then please find a different leg to hump.....

When some one repeatedly goes personal and starts insulting you, i doubt you will be the one to turn the other cheek.
I have requested for members to stick to the topic but since they lack any substance or genuine argument, they tend to digress and then other fan boys jump in. Period.
