Kerala: Partial prohibition on liquor from April 2015 - IBNLive

Thiruvananthapuram:United Democratic Front has decided to impose partial prohibition on liquor in Kerala from April 2015. Bars will be allowed only in five star hotels in Kerala.

Chief Minister Oommen chandy and Muslim league have been pushing for prohibition. Bar licences will not be issued for 418 closed bars and licences will be cancelled for remaining 312 bars.

Kerala government is planning total prohibition in the state in next 10 years.

Yes,How many seats did Owaisi get from Whole of AP? just 1 MP seat that too in old city, while a BJP MLA Raja Singh was Unchallenged in Owaisi Constituency.
Kavitha,TRS are cosying up with MIM till the Municipal elections, once they are over they will dump MIM or else TRS supporters will dump TRS chief.Telangana has a strong Anti-Nizam background and people are staunch hindus.
That cannot be said about Kerala.
Hindus cannot even conduct Festivals or processions even marriage processions without the permission of muslims.
That is not the case here in Hyderabad.
This Ganesh Festival starting from August 29 we have 60,000 Pandals set up for Ganesha in Hyderabad city alone,
On Sri Rama Navami and Hanuman Jayanthi, we have rallies of atleast 5 lakh hindus in one place and every year the numbers grow, show me something of this sort happening in Kerala and then i might agree to what you say.

I am actually surprised other Keralites here didn't mention it, but I am going to, because a lot of people who have no idea how politics work in kerala is commenting so i will break this down for you lot.

This campaign was started by a guy called V.M Sudheeran. An influential congress member from the Ezhava caste, who themselves have a lot of Liquor barons like Vellapally Nadesan etc.

The MUSLIM LEAGUE and Christians and the communists actually in previous years did not want to do this as the liquor lobby was too powerful.

But the crucial factor is, vast majority of Keralite Women are for prohibition. It was Mr. Sudheeran a Hindu from the Ezhava caste. who started closing down the bars not for Prohibition reasons.

Now every political parties including the Muslim league, Christian groups who were previously against banning commercial trade in Liquor now wants to claim the credit, and oomen Chandy is speaking of a gradual phasing in of prohinbition, which I am sure Mr.Sudheeran never intended,

I highlighted the words, so the people who posted with zilch idea of Kerala politics, can comprehend that.

how is it the start of Sharia law, when it is the Women groups of Kerala and Mr. Sudheeran a Hindu who started pushing this in the first place.

This is not gonna sit well with the Christian community, a lot of people that I know from Kerala drink. So not sure how this going to play with them.

Its not gonna sit well with any community. . People from every religion drinks a lot here..but lots of women are happy though
