Kerala Govt plans to Ban liquor

Everyone accuses Kerala and Keralites as the people who has the highest per capita alcohol consumption..... And their accusation is 100% true.

When a section of society (KCBC, Sasthra sahithya parishath, to name few) fight to remove this menace, suddenly this becomes religious, and political........ :hitwall::hitwall:

If RSS had called for ban of liquor, I know what your stand would have been.

.
@SarthakGanguly actually initially the Muslim League was against this move.

This cracking down on bars was started by a guy called Sudheeran. Which is ironic as a lot of liquor barons come from his Ezhava caste.

Other major backers are Women's groups in India. There is no religious angle to this case, but there is political opportunism.
The only bottomline is that I will need to pack a crate of beer next time I visit Munnar  Not fair. :taz:

Wait, the Churches should have red wine - right? :azn:

.
I will still be drinking after the ban of liquor in kerala when ever i visit,Stop me if you can :D

.
to be honest, I thought Women's rights groups are on of the biggest backers of this bill.

as there is a massive domestic violence issue connected with it.

and if you did polling, I am sure the number of women in kerala supporting this measure would touch high 80 percent. And there are more women voters in Kerala.

This is more similar ot the temperance movement in America in the 1920's than anything else in alliance with various religious groups.

Well there several organisation which is supporting this move, But there are larger politics behind this. As a state we have very few source of Income, and govt dependence on Liquor is high, and a very high percentage of sales happens thru Bar and restaurants. Now Why CM was against it is, (for those who dono he is a christain) because of this. Where as Sudheeran is known for stands like this. You rightly mentioned he is a ezhava and Vellappally nadeshan is rumored to have 18 bars out of which 12 or 13 is closed.

It is interesting to see the opposition's silence in this matter. They have not made their stand clear in this issue.

Very soon this issue will be replaced by another which is posted in Kerala corner by marxist.

.
Actually Gujjus don't drink. But outsiders do. Anybody from there will be able to help. :D

I think the ban was there before Modi as well, not sure. :ashamed:

Modi can lift the ban right?? Just because Modi was there, there is no problem in liquor ban or any secular issues.. All I am saying is, its a good step.. Try to appreciate it rather than making it a religious issue..

I don't see any issue. I am myself a beer guy. :P

But a blanket ban does not work in Gujarat. And it won't work in Kerala. :P

I also agree that ban does not work in Kerala.. There is a risk of illegal booze being consumed by people.. Liquor addicts will find one way or another to get booze.. But if the government is willing, they can be stopped to an extent.. Lets see what happens..

The idea is to reduce the consumption, not a blanket ban...... I think they will succeed in reducing it.....

I don't see it working out.

I just see organised crime flourishing out of this.

You know how much a simple Carlsberg, nay, a Kingfisher costs in 5 star hotels?

You just gave me a business idea.

Another problem is that, we wont be able to find workers to work in our agricultural lands
Brilliant! My labor problem is also solved.

Vellappally nadeshan and SNDP has come out in support of BJP and Modi, which is why most of his Bar's were closed down

Sudheeran is a direct rival of Nadeshan which is also why Sudheeran started demanding the ban or bars. You can bet your last coin that the initial bars to be targeted will be that of Vellapally Nadeshan for his support of Modi and BJP.

It is ridiculous to say this has no Religious angle to it.

The Christian owned bars which are the majority, will be the last to be shut down.

For modern day Mallus hypocrisy has become the norm. Its the milk they are fed on right from childhood.

You see a certain christian mallu declaring he wants goan girls to drink and dance but don't want the same for mallu girls :P ..........then you find a mallu hindu professing his love for "secularism" while he is attempting to escape from the "secular" land.

Both these examples tell you the story of modern day kerala.
Success of Macaulay System of Education and Communist Indoctrination, which makes it Taboo to call oneself a hindu in public, they have to claim secular to be counted as ideal Mallu.
The Indoctrination sure made the 'Land of Kalari' Secular Sissies who earlier were Martial people who would Defend their home and Hinduism.
Oh how they have fallen, you see the same thing happening in West Bengal,Earlier, all the best Revolutionaries, thinkers, saints were from Bengal, now they are Secular Sissies who bend backwards to appease muslims.

Do i see a pattern in both states? :azn:
Both of them have Communists and Muslims in Majority.:enjoy:

Another problem is that, we wont be able to find workers to work in our agricultural lands.. They will earn twice the amount from the organised crime groups than they get from a days work.. :(
