Rear Admiral Farrokh Ahmad also acknowledged the professional competence of DAMEN Shipyards and prospects of future cooperation in delivering cutting edge naval technologies to Pakistan Navy in the form of Offshore Patrol Vessels.

The ceremony was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Defence Production, Naval headquarters, besides senior management of M/s DAMEN Shipyards, Gorinchem and Galati.

Which one are we getting?

Why we are acquiring too many small vessels instead we need frigates and destroyers.

Too many small vessels will give us too many options and turrets to fire at enemy. North Arabian Ocean is too much big for frigates.

@Gryphon @Oscar ... The PN's OPV is called 'OPV 1900' ... and the hull aesthetics seem to be closer to the SIGMA than the OPV-series (though it probably is still built like the OPV - e.g. all-steel, no composites, etc).

Its not that PN is getting these in place of frigates but to free up frigates. The focus on OPV as of late is for a few reasons.

1. Helps to protect CPEC from criminal and terrorist elements.

2. Helps free up PN warships for the from things like antipiracy and anti narcotics operations (such as CTF-150 & 151). These OPV can be assigned here as they are more than enough to deal with pirates or terrorists/narco smugglers. That allows 2 warships (frigates) to focus warfighting and not police duty.

What you are talking about is the one being built in Karachi Ship Yard with help from Turkey. it is 1700 tons displacement. These 2 being built in Romania are new projects I think. the main question here that needs and answer is that why PN is getting so many OPVs like this much OPV is needed for some very large navy. So there is something strange cooking in PN?

here is the image of the one at Karachi yard

These are very big ships here is the design image.

Probably customized it considering that ship hulls and designs are fairly flexible compared to aircraft.

We needed a larger vessel to offset blue water capabilities that did not exist.
