Kashmir to have metro rail

It will be great if India connect Jammu and Srinagar with new high speed train plans. It will be better for the tourism than even Metro.

Already underway.

The railhead now is Udhampur & not Jammu.

Soon trains shall ply upto Srinagar which shall be a huge achievement.

Firstly, this is not an extravaganza but a necessity . You only have to travel once to Jammu once to realise this. The amount of fuel & time wasted / lost in traffic jams is colossal. Each state has a right to develop.

Sir I dont think Metro is a necessity for Kashmir. Just look at how empty the trains are running few posts above. It would not be commercially viable to operate Metro in Kashmir, atleast now.

Mr. Bhairava we can't judge like this if this is economically viable or not. Let the consultants do the job. We will know when the final report is submitted for approval. Metro, monorail or Brtc lets see whats in box for Jammu and Kashmir.

" Kashmir ' here in the article means J&K.

The trains are running to low occupancy because it runns only for a small distance.

Dude all I'm giving is my opinion based on informed guesses. If we are all to go by what the consultants/analysts/ministers say there would be no need fr the forum.

I know. First of all if Metro is going to be introduced its going to be introduced in Valley only first before Jammu (my guess based on the Valley domination on Kashmir politics) and second even if it was introduced in Jammu, still I think its not viable economically right now.

Well I too believe that Metro might not be actually that successfull, but something has to be done there to improve the transport. Building highways and a good bus system should be the beginning.

Now we are talking. Existing roads need to be expanded and need to be made all-weather.

:smokin:

I like this better.

Maybe the metro when the city gets really busy, crowded, congested with cars, etc.

Such mega infra projects are not undertaken based on political sentiment.

As regards viability in Jammu -I think it shall be. In any case its about time we think ahead . Given the way Jammu has expanded it will help take a lot of traffic off the road.

You are echoing my thoughts. they will target and destroy but we will rebuild. so life goes on......

Its not that easy mate. Firstly I do not think that project will be realised soon....its a long way before we'll see metro in kashmir (although very much on cards)....there are hundreds of such projects lying on papers just lik ethis one for many other states.
Moreover I think the officials who have thought of the project might have also kept this point in mind before stating to lay the project of this kind in kashmir (jammu to be specific)..if indian Railways can operate Trains from kashmir valley then , they can surely operate Metro..the valley is moving towards peace with each passing day and by god's grace it will continue to do so.

Yeah guess what the dream of Kashmiriat will never happen after the treatment of the Pandits....good luck. And those dreams of Independence can fuk off. If you want independence so badly go to Pakistan/China and ask for such? let;s see what they do and how they react? You can show me all the videos you want, but Kashmir is an integral part of India. Get used to it or you can leave.

And the best part is u dnt even see the videos. :P

Who da hell is asking for independence? Not me nor Omer abdullah. :D

U simply got busted here. :D
