Mumbai: Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the Pakistani gunman captured during 26/11, on Friday retracted his statement in court, saying he was forced by the police to sign a confessional statement.
He told the court he was not the man who had opened fire at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, killing 52 people and leaving more than 100 wounded.

Woh mera humshakal tha Abu Ali, jisse police ne firing mein maar diya (That wasnt me, that was Abu Ali, my lookalike, who was gunned down by police), 22-year-old Kasab said in his statement, recorded under Section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). He claimed he learnt of the name of his lookalike from the police.
In a highly animated four-hour long session in court, Kasab retracted two of his previous statementsone made to a magistrate immediately after his arrest and a subsequent voluntary confession before the special courtand rejected all charges levelled by witnesses.
He claimed he was arrested a day before the attack after he stepped out of a movie hall, that he had come to India 20 days before the attack on the Samjhauta Express from Pakistan and had travelled to Mumbai from Delhi.
He claimed that a day before the attack, he was interrogated by four foreigners and mentioned Headley as one of his interrogators David Headley, an American of Pakistani origin, was recently charged in the US in connection with the attacks. Judge M L Tahaliyani immediately stopped Kasab, saying statement recording was conducted on the basis of evidence brought on record and other aspects could not be included.

He told the court that all he had said earlier were lies and done under duress. Police ne mujhe daraaya tha. Mujhe laga agar apni jaan bachaani hai, toh mein gunaah kabool kar yahan se nikal sakta hoon (I was threatened by police. I thought I would get away by confessing), he said.
