Construction of Gulbai-Mauripur road starts in Karachi

The Sindh government has started the construction of Gulbai-Mauripur road in Karachi. It will take six months.

The construction of 5.25km dual carriageway from Gulbai to Y-Junction will cost Rs1.01 billion.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed on Tuesday the Sindh Local Government Department to construct a stormwater drain on either side of the road.

He was presiding over a meeting to review ongoing development schemes under the Karachi Package. “I want the drainage issues of the area resolved before the construction of the road,” he said.
The chief minister was informed that there were some encroachments along the road. He directed officials to remove these illegal structures.

An alternate route had been worked out for the construction of the road, officials told the meeting.
The chief minister said the project is very important to open up the Hawke’s Bay and the coastal belt for recreational purposes.

“The development of the city must be tourism-oriented,” he said. “It should attract tourists to the seashore and historical places like the Wazir Mansion and Jinnah House.”

The meeting also reviewed the condition of different underpasses and flyovers in the city. CM Shah directed the Sindh local government minister to hand them over to the KMC and DMCs to ensure their proper maintenance.

Karachi now has 30 buses with air conditioning.

They are all running on the same route for now, but two new routes are expected to be introduced soon.
You will have to pay Rs100 as the bus fare.

The owner of the AC coaches, Muhammad Shafi, says the route is from Dawood Chowrangi to Sharae Faisal to Tower.

Public transport is a major problem in Karachi and the lack of public transport in the city has led to a proliferation of rickshaws and Qingqis, which affect the flow of traffic.

Complete KCR in 9 months: SC

by The Frontier Post

KARACHI (TLTP): The Supreme Court ordered on Thursday that the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) be completed in the next nine months.

Headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, an apex court bench was hearing the KCR revival case at the Karachi registry.

Commissioner Karachi Naved Ali Shaikh informed the judges that the KCR track has been cleared of all encroachments.

At this, CJP Ahmed asked what is hampering the complete restoration of the KCR when all encroachments have been removed from the track. The KCR project director said the 14-kilometre long Orangi-City station track, which is dotted with nine stations, is operational. The complete KCR track is 43 kilometres long, the secretary railway said, adding the City-Drigh road track is also operational.

However, the Green Line BRT project has become a hurdle near Nazimabad, he pointed out. A flyover or an underpass need to be built there, he added.

The secretary railway said the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has been given a contract for its construction. A lawyer for FWO rejected the secretary’s claim saying it has not been given any such contract.

The provincial transport secretary said that a work order in this regard had been issued following the cabinet’s approval, adding the organisation demanded Rs25 million for a pre-feasibility advice, which had also been released.

“FWO has been assigned the task to milk money,” CJP Gulzar remarked. “This is a public interest matter and you [FWO] have been demanding money.”
