ISLAMABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is reluctant to take action against local extremists, who are occupying the land of Hindu shrine in district Karak.

Advocate General K-P Latif Yousufzai has submitted a report on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Karak in the Supreme Court over the alleged illegal occupation of Hundu shrine by local extremists in district Karak.

The provincial government in its report has expressed apprehension that Oil & Gas Exploration companies are in field at various places for symmetric survey, therefore, any action against the illegal occupation of Hindu shrine land will likely to aggravate the un-rest amongst the people under the influence of local Aalim Molana Muhammad Sharif, who is opposing the construction/eviction of Hindu temple.

Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a patron of Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC), who has brought up the issue in the top court, said that he had informed the illegal occupation of Hindu Shrine to PTI chief Imran Khan, senior leader of PTI Shah Mahmood Queraishi and local MNA of PTI Nasir Khan but they did not taking action in this regard.

“It is test case for PTI that how the provincial government retrieves the Hindu Shrine’s land from influential persons”, he adds.

The K-P government’s report has also disclosed that local politician and ex-MNA of Jamaat-e-Islami Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz was also against the implementation of nine year old Jirga’s decision in favour of Hindu community.

Giving background of the issue, the report says that a Hindu namely Shri Param Hans Ki Mehaj living in Teri village had died in 1919 and was buried there as his followers often visited the shrine after his death and this practice continued till 1997. The copy of report is available with The Express Tribune.

“Some local extremists dismantled it. The issue came to lime light when some Hindu followers of Shrine Param Hans attempted to restore the old path leading to the shrine which though was evacuee property but occupied by one local Mufti Iftikharud Din”

The provincial government further told that Hindu elders from Sindh province tried to negotiate privately with Mufti and pad Rs 375,000 as cost of land occupied by him but the said mufti despite getting the money from minority MPA Ghian Chand did not vacate the land in 1997.

The report further says that minority MPAs have tried their best to get the land from the Mufti, which they had purchased in 1997 but failed.

“Several meetings between local Ulemas led by Mulana Muhammad Sharif and Hindu elders from Sindh were held but Mulana Muhammad Sharif, who has a great influence in Tehsil Banda Daud Shah, was in no mood to let the Hnidus get their right”

It is also stated on February 24, 2005, a jirga was also held over this issue and it was announced in public that Hindus will start their renovation work on the sharine but Molana Sharif did not accept the Jirga’s verdict.

“Maulana Abdul Aziz opposed construction of “Mandar” in Teri, he in support of his contention had hold a meeting of Khatak tribes which they held at Nasak Baba on April 2005 where they had expressed un-willing regarding construction of Mandar and that they would not hesitate to take any action need to this effect”

The report also says that Maulana Aziz contention is that being a religious issue, it cannot be resolved through a Jirga decision rather a committee of senior Muftis and Ulema’s should give a religious verdict on the matter.

It is to be noted that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani while hearing the matter on June 4 has asked AG K-P to consult chief minister for resolving this issue before June 16.
