Look bro I will explain it real simple. Modi was trying to play along with both Russia and USA but guess what he got stuck. There is a famous saying which I cannot say here but it has to do something with dhobhi.
USA is now pushing India to totally let go of Russian weapons and get wonderful goodies from USA. It is a good option for India but it gives Pakistan a lot as well. Russia will totally shift to Pakistan. Now in all this Trump is coming down hard on trade with India. India advertised so much about their economic growth that Trump wants his cut in all that as well. So India is in a difficult position. India has decided to extend the status quo and linger both Russia and USA plus they are also engaging Europe but they are just doing lip service and no concrete contracts and money is being given and now every one knows this Indian stance.

So for India they were so late to chose that they them self became an option.

I can give credit to Imran Khan for this or he was lucky with it, I don't know but he has nailed it. That is what matters.

Indeed. The right leader at the right time is on top to really drive the initiative forward.

The engagement needs to be in trade and industry, long term and economically meaningful. The strategic benefits start to shape up automatically and not the other way around. Russians are not dum, they are cautious as we have been strangely single minded in our approach towards the military aspacts of it.

Pakistan should invite Russia to participate in expanding industrial base along Gwadar route and may be even go bold and all out for estalishing a civilian BOT nuclear power plant or something worthwhile along those lines. That they can participate in establishing petrochemical refinery can go some way in may be joining the Saudi band wagon too. They can help establish a rail link to Central Asia. May be even PIA can start by leasing half a dozen Antonovs for some routes etc etc.

It is all about creating serious business opportunities and making the best of our bilateral relations.
