Judicial Commission inquiry and findings

Have been following Pak elections pretty closely. Man... it's really shocking to see some of the footages... absolutely blatant rigging, with everyone involved hand in glove with each other. EC of Pakistan needs to be reformed massively. You have to do away with this ad-hoc CEC selected by political parties as per their convenience. You guys need an autonomous, constitutionally established authority which is independent of any political influence, to conduct free and fair elections.

Absolutely!! And you are expecting this from the thugs of PPP and now PML-N? It was the best thing that Musharraf could have done but he did not. Just like Higher Education Commission being a constitutional body, Election Commission could have been constitutional body too.

There is such blatant rigging and instead of addressing the concerns, those who benefited from this exercise are telling the protesters to show 'sportsman spirit' and to move on. Which means will be doing this rigging more openly in the next elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan is in fact an autonomous, constitutionally mandated authority that is supposed to be independent so that it can conduct free and fair elections. In theory.

are you sure he said so?

anyway as I noted, the angotha print was the worst impression on the paper, it was just like a stain, cannot say really if that data would be helpful...

I myself was confused that with all those badmashs and gundas on Ganjas side, how can PTI won NA126... well if you are also confused here is what happend in NA126, that restricted N-League from doing rigging in NA126, somewhat...

"There are very confirmed news that NA126, the only constituency where PTI officially won is because a DON of Model town(won't mention his name) was keeping the gundas of PML-N intact otherwise Ganjas wud have taken away that constituency also. PTI is unaware of this gunda gardi so they lost, had they hired some Gundas, who can kept the watch and moved from polling station to polling station where the Ganjas were sending their badmashs, the results wud have changed massively....."

Who else can he be, other then Mian Amir Mehmood... who restricted NooNs from doing rigging...

If incumbent control on government is so vital then how come PPP and PMLN governments alternated in 1990s?

Via Moeed Pirzada's Official Facebook Page

Salman Bakthyar, a member of this page questions that if incumbent control on government is so vital then how come PPP and PMLN governments alternated in 1990s? - This needs an explanation. PPP was kicked out of office in 1990 on corruption charges by President Ghulam Ishaq and the in the subsequent elections the interim set up was all working to make PMLN win the elections. Again when Nawaz was kicked out in 1993, the Moeen Qureshi Interim set-up supported by the military was inclined to bring in Benazir Bhutto back. This story was repeated in 1997 when BB was kicked out and Interim setup wanted to bring Nawaz back. In 2002, Musharraf wanted PMLQ and Chaudries and in 2008 Musharraf had to ensure that PPP wins, because he had commitments with the Americans to transfer power to PPP, and he actually worked to reduce the PMLQ seats (though popular narrative is otherwise).

Bottom line is that in Pakistan - unlike India - incumbency and control on government machinery helps to win elections. If we carefully look at the last 20-25 years, then it is easy to see - as pointed out above - that only those parties or leaders win who are being supported by a sitting government machinery. The only exception that confuses people - because of change of governments in 1990's- is due to the military/establishment interventions who then worked to defeat the party they had deposed (PPP in 1990, PMLN in 1993, PPP in 1997) and worked behind the scenes to ensure election victory for the party they had a deal with (PMLN in 1990, PPP in 1993, PMLN in 1997 and PMLQ in 2002). 2013 may look different since PPP at the center has been replaced by PMLN, however a more careful look will reveal that PPP has maintained its hold in Sindh where it could influence government machinery and PMLN could easily win from Punjab where it had influence over the government machinery. Only ANP lost because of less influence over machinery (and also Pashtun culture is more equal and egalitarian than the Punjabi and Sindhi social system. Pashtuns generally are less impressed by power of the state organs and are far more independent in mind and spirit and also their "family" is nuclear and small unlike the "biradaris" in Punjab and Sindh.)

The central argument is that Pakistan has still not discovered a mechanism whereby an incumbent controlling government (in a province, which actually controls the police and coercive apparatus) can actually be dislodged through elections. And 2013 has merely confirmed this reality. Lets hope for 2018!

Electronic voting machines are the way forward. While EVMs are also not 100% safe but tampering those would be beyond these jahil thugs.

Any valid evidence or proofs to claim this or just a statement???

Fazl vows protests against KP’s mandate to PTI, claims massive rigging in KPK, FATA

STAFF REPORT

Alleging wide range rigging in general elections, chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (F) chief Fazlur Rehman has refused to accept the mandate given by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf.

“The mandate given to the PTI has become controversial,” Fazl remarked while talking to reporters at the residence of former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani on Tuesday.

“We do not recognise PTI’s mandate and have decided of agitation against it throughout the province,” he added.

Advocating his point of view further, Fazl said, “Polling stations were occupied by activists of a particular party. Polling staff was made hostage. Such practices were in progress throughout the Election Day in Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA).”

He said the Election Commission exposed its failure and inefficiencies in this respect and no one could call it fair, free and transparent elections.

Regarding the future line of action, Fazl said the JUI had decided launching agitation against the mandate awarded to the PTI. In this connection, the JUI-F activists had been directed to arrange rallies and protests in all district headquarters.

To a question, Fazl said the JUI-F was in a position to establish its government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In this respect, they were in contacts with leaders from the Jamaat Islami, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and independent MPAs.
