The Election Commission (EC) has decided to take judicial action on the inquiry report into the disappearance of presiding officers in NA-75 Daska.
According to sources, the matter of missing presiding officers will be heard in an open court on the inquiry of the Joint Election Commissioner Punjab, and formal notices will be issued to those responsible by the Election Commission.
It may be recalled that this report was reviewed in the meeting of the Election Commission held this week. The Election Commission had stopped the results in Daska and ordered re-polling.
It may be recalled that the report of the Election Commission had revealed that in the by-election of NA-75 Daska, 20 missing presiding officers were found together at a suspicious place. They appeared together the next morning.
Municipal elections
On the other hand, the Election Commission has decided to issue orders to the federation and the provinces on non-cooperation for local body elections.
According to sources, the Election Commission will first issue orders for holding phased elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in November.
The Election Commission has also sought funds from the federation for the local body elections in Islamabad and the provinces. The Election Commission has sent a letter to the Ministry of Finance asking it to release the funds allocated for the local body elections soon.
On the other hand, Murtaza Wahab of Sindh government says that local body elections cannot be held till the issue of census is resolved. If the Election Commission orders, elections will be held by February-March.
