Joint operation to kill Pak Taliban chief Baitullah

Agree 100% with you.

The problem is when such forces attack Pakistan you have this response and when they attack India they are called strategic assets. Doesn’t this amount to double speak.

dear neighbour,
what we have done and vice versa to hurt and harm each other had a history but was wrong. Lets hope we can forget the past and hope for a better future.
But yes the scale for such criminal actions should be the same.
Most of pakistani were sympathatic when bombay happened.

When terror hit India just after 2 hours India media with out any conformation blaming Pakistan. Any think blast done in India it is automatically blamed on Pakistan.

Not true. Serial Blasts in Assam today are being blamed on ULFA which is a home grown terrorist organization.

Pak rejects US proposal for joint ops in tribal areas

DAWN.COM | + Pakistan | Pak rejects US proposal for joint ops in tribal areas

Tuesday, 07 Apr, 2009

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Tuesday rejected a US proposal for joint operations in the country's tribal areas, DawnNews quoted official sources as saying.

Simultaneously, the top leadership also asked US envoy Richard Holbrooke and Admiral Mike Mullen to shift drone technology and authority to the Pakistan Army.

The officials emphasized the need for trust between their countries to counter the al Qaeda and the Taliban threat, even as Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi complained Tuesday about American missile strikes on Pakistani soil.

Richard Holbrooke and Mike Mullen were visiting Pakistan on the heels of President Barack Obama's announcement of plans to reinvigorate the war in Afghanistan by sending more troops to the region and boosting aid to Pakistan to help it stave off al Qaeda and Taliban-led militancy on its soil.

Pakistani leaders say they are happy about getting billions more in assistance, but Obama's insistence that the money won't come without conditions — no 'blank check' — has rankled some here and underscored a trust deficit between the two camps.

'We can only work together if we respect each other and trust each other,' Qureshi said during a joint news conference.

It was a sentiment echoed by Mullen, who said he was committed to improving the nations' relationship to the point where there is a 'surplus of trust.'

Pakistan's civilian government points to the deaths of hundreds of Pakistani troops in battling insurgents along the Afghan frontier in questioning the line from Washington. But US officials have complained that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence still has ties to some militant groups, something Pakistan denies.

'Pakistan is committed in eliminating extremism from the society, for which it needs unconditional support by the international community in the fields of education, health, training and provision of equipment for fighting terrorism,' President Asif Ali Zardari said in a statement after meeting the envoys.

Zardari also urged the use of negotiations to resolve some tensions with the militants, something the US is considering.

'Military action is only one aspect of the solution,' the statement said.

Pakistan faces rising terrorist attacks on its soil by militants upset over its cooperation with the United States.

Pakistani citizens have held protests denouncing recent attacks, but there is widespread worry that cooperating with the US in the anti-terrorist fight is what is damaging the nation's security.

Many Pakistanis also are irritated with US missile strikes on militant targets in the northwest, and the government has officially and repeatedly requested they be stopped because they inflame anti-American sentiment.

On that subject, 'let me be very frank. There's a gap between us and them,' Qureshi insisted Tuesday. 'I want to bridge that gap.'

‘My view is that they are working to the advantage of the extremists. We agree to disagree on this. We will take it up when we meet again in Washington,’ Qureshi told reporters.

Many analysts suspect the two countries have a secret deal allowing the strikes, which American officials say have killed some top militant leaders.

The foreign minister further said that Pakistan has 'red lines' that should not be crossed, but would only specify its objection to any sort of US ground operation on its territory when asked to elaborate.

Asked about whether the US could simply hand over Predator drones to the Pakistanis so they could carry out the strikes, Mullen did not directly answer, but said the Americans were eager to share counter-insurgency techniques and lessons with Pakistan.

Holbrooke said the countries face a common challenge and task.

'We have had a long and complicated history, our two countries,' he said. 'We cannot put the past behind us, but we must learn from it and move forward.'

The envoys' visit also comes just days after Hakimullah Mehsud, a deputy to Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, warned that the group would carry out two suicide bombings per week in Pakistan unless the US stops the missile strikes.

Joint operations for what when all the mess created in FATA by RAW and CIA.

.
I still belive it is better if Pakistan went in for a joint ops with US. If this Al-qaeeda attacks into afghanistan are not curbed by pakistan and no joint ops happen, It may lead to the NATO and US forces to take unilateral action on pakistani soil, which they are avoiding right now. Its in a better interest.

Never going to happen, there is no doubt that covert ops do take place in Pak with Gov "permission" but a full scale deployment of US troops on Pak soil will create anarchy and lead to an actual civil war.

It is just not going to happen, at least not in this century.

. . .
strictly in military terms, the PA can learn a lot about CI from joint-ops - politics aside.

I totally agree, FM this whole drama that we cannot allow US forces or close cooperation with US Joint Ops is pure BS. Why? Well because the FBI already has a field office in Islamabad (Forensic Sciences Lab- Now Moved to a new office (cannot disclose)

http://www.paktribune.com/news/index.php?id=137816

We know that the US state dept, BDS: Diplomatic Secy, BATFE and FBI regularly train Pakistani forces and SSG and US SF Have conducted several training sessions together.

Sabre has been installed in all Pakistani Airports and all major international airports within Pakistan have a direct sabre link with Langley. Anyone coming or going has a mug shot taken and is stored on the FIA database, which is then shared with our friends in Langley.

Add to that the mix of US assets stationed within Pakistan queue "Sargodha" and you already have a high number of yanks (no offence to American's on this forum).

So whilst i understand the political angle, like you I too agree that joint ops would benefit us in the long run and would show the world that we mean business. Sadly our government is too inept to sell the benefits of this to the general illiterate yet highly politically aware masses of Pakistan.

Shame really...

You are right, it is never going to happen, but there is no denying the benifit of cross training with other forces. The US have extensive experience in counter insurgency operations and we can benifit from that experience.

I have already stated that this denial of access to US forces is a bit of a laim excuse, we already have the American's working in Pakistan. Anyway, the Gov or the people of Pakistan are never going to let this happen so its a dead duck.

Lets move onto a "realsitic" option.

:enjoy:

US are declaring statement about PAK army and ISI for aiding Taliban. Joint operation is suggested by US and CIA because they do not believe Pakistan anymore.

.
The only terrorists are the new Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) that suddenly emerged trying to confuse the world with the original Taliban.

Confuse the world !!! The world isnt confused, Pakistan is.

The original Taliban never harmed Pakistan, this new taliban (TTP) lead by Baitullah Mehsud that suddenly emerges after India comes into Afghanistan have caused problems for Pakistan. A few weeks ago this TTP threatened anti-india groups in Pakistan, including LeT that you people blame for Mumbai attacks. LeT members told them sorry we cant hurt our own Pakistani people.

Are you admitting those terrorists are indeed Pakistanis?

The original Taliban leader Mullah Omar told TTP Taliban to stop killing Pakistan army..

Original Taliban? Anti-Pakistan Taliban? You either want to live with them both or none. Pakistan should decide.

Its clear whose a threat to Pakistan, its TTP that is being funded by India and India is planning all these attacks on Pakistan from the Indian consulates in Afghanistan. The world doesn't call India, Pakistan's arch-rival for nothing.

Well you yourselves say Pakistanis hurt India using LeT, then why cant India do the same?
