JF-17B Updates, News & Discussion

View attachment 812230Just some stuff for nerds to geek out on:
1. The aircraft is flying at a lowish speed in this picture. This is evident from the increased angle-of-attack (AoA) - nose pointing slightly upwards relative to the direction the jet is flying in. Furthermore, the downward deflected leading edge flap is also indicating this (this is done by the flight control system to allow flight at high angle-of-attacks).
2. The horizontal stabilizer is deflected down. Assuming that the aircraft is picture in trim this actually suggests that the aircraft is stable in pitch because the hor-stab is deflected to produce downward force (dynamic stability can be "imagined" by imagining a disturbance that increases angle of attack and then seeing if the aircraft naturally decreases its AoA or increases it).

At least that's what I think. I might be wrong - wrote this in a hurry.

Found this interesting piece on the AOA ISSUE.

People are bashing the F-35 over this picture of it flying with an F-16

The cool shot in this post was shared by the Thunderbirds on their Facebook page.

It shows a US Air Force F-35A forming up on right wing of the F-16 No. 1 leader of the USAF demo team. By looking at the configuration of the two aircraft and the angle of attack, or AOA — the angle between the relative wind and a reference line on the airplane or wing — it is pretty clear that the aircraft are flying at low speed in an attempt to match the airspeed of a slow camera ship.

Noticing that the F-35 is flying with a higher AOA than the F-16, many people have used the photograph to criticize Lockheed Martin's fifth-generation stealth jet as if the fact that the Joint Strike Fighter was flying "nose high" is the umpteenth sign that the aircraft is a fiasco: Criticizing the F-35 has become somehow "fashionable."

Actually, it's not the case. The photo just highlights that, given its wing type and aerodynamic characteristics, a clean F-16, with flaps down, is able to fly, under full control and leveled, in formation with the camera ship with a slightly lower AOA than an F-35.

That's it.

Except for the 3 hinges which makes it look like a relic of the 1950's ... still dont understand the set of design decisions that went through to come up with that ..
Good god, line em up and spank em with pink paddle of shame. I will stop her before I get the need to take the high PB pills.

Let's talk about the "set of design decisions" you do understand? Stop being a Keren, those hinges won't win or lose a battle

Hi,

The 3 hinges design concept is a deception---the enemy focuses on the hinges---the aircraft slips thru the quadrant---o_Oo_O

That is to cut cost.

J-10 and J-20 have no such hinges becos they are well funded and no cost restriction. Performance above cost.

You pay us what and we design according to the budget.

. . .
Which other country that launched a new aircraft in the last 30 years had to go to IMF, KSA, UAE, China, other countries to beg for money to keep its economy afloat? or to provide oil on deferred payments? or to deposit cash in our banks to support foreign exchange reserves?

Learn to appreciate the efforts and the achievements on a shoe-string budget instead of being a crying cunt all the time.

Completely silly statement. "We will do a pissy job unless you pay us more?" ... which other newly designed jet made and released in the last 30years has adopted the hinges on the outside of the cockpit area like the JF17B has ? Exactly how much effort would it have taken to do it properly ? Infact - how can the "starting point" be - oh lets put the hinges on the outside on a new design aircraft ? It does really feel like some C-grade reject graduates were asked to design the hinge on that thing and they just decided to do a copy-paste from a 50 year old relic and went to lunch... Hell - CAC had solved that "design cost" already for the J10S for god sake before they started working on the JF17B ...

The repeated posting about hinges outside the canopy of Block B, is not even worth a debate anymore due to absence of design study, cost vs benefit, performance effects in posting. ANYONE that shares in depth analysis instead of repeated personal like or dislike; will be appreciated. Please don't derail thread unnecessarily.

You expect too much - rishwat is ok but the length of shalwar from the ankles is worth fighting over.. the same way poor B model’s added capability and features are relevant but every other aerodynamics mullah has to comment on hinges.
