china is expanding its role as a super-power to be reckoned with.

Sudan operates many Chinese equipment and has been happy to do so. It makes much sense since it already operates K-8 trainers and quite a few Chinese missiles.

"...Sudanese army resembles a second Chinese Liberation Army.
" Sounds very refreshing.

If the FC-1 deal is announced, China will surely bear more Western criticism. It probably makes sense to adopt a low posture.

the western world is more concerned with the J-10 than the FC-1. remember the FC-1 will have chinese systems + the RD93 and only the JF-17 will have a mix of chinese and western systems (read RC-400 and MICA).

Six more JF-17 Thunder fighter jets inducted into PAF

* Advanced multi-role light combat aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China seen as capable of fulfilling PAF requirements up to middle of 21st century

ISLAMABAD: Six new JF-17 Thunder aircraft have recently been inducted into the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), taking the PAF’s tally of this new series of fighter jet to eight, including the two the air force inducted last year, the PAF said in a statement on Friday.

The F-17 Thunder is an advanced multi-role light combat aircraft invested in and developed jointly by China and Pakistan. It is the result of a key strategic collaboration project between the two countries in the military field, the PAF statement said.

The JF-17 is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is being seen as one of the most capable multi-role aircraft available, which should fulfil PAF requirements well into the middle of the 21st century. The government is also trying to procure the latest related missile technology from France to make the jets even more effective.

The PAF statement said the six additional JF-17s had been inducted in test and evaluation flights at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra, where they will be put through further testing and evaluation as part of the JF-17 development programme.

The statement said four of the jets will be on display at the National Day flypast on March 23. It also highlighted the major milestones achieved in the joint project so far. According to the statement, the first flight of the first prototype took place in August 2003, while the third prototype was flight-tested in April 2004.

In May 2006, the fourth prototype, with fully integrated configuration, made its successful maiden flight in Chengdu, China, while the sixth prototype took to the air in September 2006. President Pervez Musharraf was the chief guest at the arrival ceremony of the first JF-17 in Pakistan on March 21, 2007.

Recently, on January 22, this year, an inauguration ceremony for the manufacturing of JF-17 Thunder sub-assemblies was held at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra, at which Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed was the chief guest.

PAF gets six JF-17 Thunder aircraft

By Iftikhar A. Khan

ISLAMABAD, March 14: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has received another six JF-17 Thunder aircraft from China. Two such aircraft were received earlier.

According to an official announcement, the aircraft have been inducted into the PAF for test and evaluation flight at the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra.

Four of the aircraft will participate in the Pakistan Day fly-past on March 23.

JF-17 Thunder aircraft is an advanced multi-role light combat aircraft jointly developed by China and Pakistan under a strategic collaboration project.

The aircraft is designed to be cost-effective and can meet the tactical and strategic needs of the PAF.

A source in the PAF told Dawn that the serial production of JF-17 Thunder has already started and the production capacity would be gradually taken to 25 aircraft per year by 2011.

He said that about 60 per cent of the aircraft’s frame and 80 per cent of its avionics would be manufactured in Pakistan by 2010.

He said the first 50 aircraft would have avionics of Chinese origin while the next batch would be fitted with indigenously-developed avionics and European radars.

Pakistan had begun negotiations with British and Italian defence firms over potential avionics and other systems for JF-17.

He said the PAF would induct 150 aircraft into its inventory in the first phase, under an agreement with the Chinese company, and the total induction could go up to 250.

The JF-17 will replace Pakistan’s MiG-21-derived Chengdu F-7, Nanchang A-5 and Mirage III/V currently in service.

Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe have each placed orders as well. Nine other countries which have expressed interest in purchasing the JF-17 are Bangladesh, Myanmar, Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Algeria.

Although the 60% of the airframe will be manufactured in pakistan, does this mean that we will produce the parts through our own metallurgical experience or will we just ship those parts from china and assemble it?

I don't take assembling an aircraft to be the same as producing one. What can this mean for pakistan's defense industry? I know that PAC has its own wind tunnel, will we be able to design and produce our own aircraft in the future if necessary? Can someone please answer these questions, I don't want my patriotism getting in the way of facts.

:pakistan::pakistan:i wait to see them on 23 march god bless pakistan:yahoo::yahoo:
