AFP says the operator of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, where a second reactor system is overheating, says there is a risk of a second explosion

More on the danger posed by that second developing problem at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. A Tokyo Electric Power Co spokesman said:

All the functions to keep cooling water levels in No.3 reactor have failed at the Fukushima No.1 plant.

As of 5:30am, water injection stopped and inside pressure is rising slightly.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett, reporting from Motomiya, not far from the quake-hit nuclear plants in Fukushima, says residents are queuing up at local supermarkets, stocking up on food, and flocking to petrol stations to fill up the tanks ahead of any possible emergency

I hope this does not become a serious problem...

India was offering its manpower and expertise to Japan earlier. Perhaps Japan can use indian help in this time.

Why only India, everyone who can, should try to help them in these desperate times. The worst case scenario may be un-imaginable calamity with possible fall-out not only for Japan, but its neighbouring countries and surrounding ocean/ marine lives. Every humane being should be concerned.

The latest TEPCO release says only that the radiation level fell and the rose again over the past two days at Daiichi. They're not saying anything about Daiichi 3 other than that they're pumping sea water into it. Also, still nothing about Daini. Only the Japanese overwatch agency is talking about the meltdown having already begun. Also, nothing on Rokkasho for the last day.

Both reactors at risk, #1 and #3 are BWR's. The difference is that #1 is uranium only while reactor 3 is MOX, Uranium and Plutonium. Plutonium is more difficult to cool, cladding more likely to fail, and health risks much greater than uranium. Worst case scenario, release into upper atmosphere where it can travel great distances and be brought down in rainwater onto unsuspecting areas. And meltdown through containment floor resulting in long-term contamination of ground water resources.

they have money, but need more men, lets help them out in this hour of need, our relief materials and team are on the way...

@Indian Jatt,

Dear Sir, there are two separate dedicated thread, one for the quack & Tsunami related news and this one for the possible nuclear disaster.
