'Japan wants to supply radar and other military hardware to Bangladesh'

Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki has said that a Japanese company visited Japan, following interest shown by the Bangladesh armed forces. The company wants to sell military hardware, including radars, to Bangladesh.

The ambassador made this disclosure at the DCAB talk event Tuesday morning, while discussing future cooperation between the two countries. The event was organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh.

When asked which Japanese company had visited Bangladesh to discuss supply of military hardware, Ambassador Ito Naoki said that representatives of Mitsubishi Electronics had come in this regard.

He said that in recent times Japan had relaxed its laws regarding the export of military equipment. Following that, Japanese companies had begun exporting military hardware to certain countries in Asia. Such processes were already underway with Vietnam, Philippines and other ASEAN countries.

Mentioning that the defence sector could be a new area of cooperation with Bangladesh, Ito Naoki said this area had opened up when Bangladesh expressed its decision to diversify its source of procuring military hardware.

"I hope that the two sides continue discussions in this regard," he added.

The event, moderated by DCAB president Rezaul Karim Lotus, was also addressed by the organisation's general secretary AKM Moin Uddin.

I call BS on this....

Japs have miniscule military tech... retarded US imposed pacifist constitution...

They would be unreliable military allies.... BD needs to buy from Turkey/china who we can conceivably rely on in case of war with hindutva fascists. Or if we want the best just go with european or US... japan is no military player... we should just smile, feed them a good biriyani and give best wishes to their journey back.

We already bulk purchase their second hand cars.

They should be happy.

Guys its not that the Japanese are lacking in the technology areas. It is just that their products will be very expensive for us. Maybe their stuff is too specialized for our low-tech use.

Also - they are allies with the Indians and Indians can lobby and influence them.

We in Bangladesh just do NOT KNOW. The capability of Japanese Military Technology is not minuscule.

Japan was an early entrant in aviation and naval defence areas in the 1920s when aviation and naval fighting platforms were just coming of age past the age of the silk-winged biplanes and naval dreadnoughts. Much earlier than either China or Turkey developed their technology in those areas. They won the naval battle against the Russians in the naval battle of Tsushima in 1905. That should tell you something.

While I am not a moral supporter of what they did in Nanking to the Chinese (or in Shanghai) in 1937, I will keep away from bad mouthing their technology.

Japan has developed very specialized custom platforms for almost every defence need (for air defence fighters, for all sorts of patrol platforms, even seaplanes) back before world war II, whether in any aviation area , naval platforms or even armor. Very few items in their Navy, air force (JASDF) or army (JGSDF) are supplied unmodified from the US even today. Almost every platform is modified for Japanese use either by design or technicality. IHI (Ishikawajima Harima) is a major supplier of aviation engine and airframe components to majors in US and EU.

Mention something you need to know and I will give you examples.

You guys are not aware of the technology capabilities of the Japanese historically (or even today).

??????????????

It is Japan the first country in the world who make AESA radar operational in their Navy ships. Their F16 also use AESA radar, and their F 16 is rather bigger where Japanese in involved in design and of course production.

Japan aerospace engine is more superior than Turkey

They had developed a pusher canard equipped fighter capable of 450 MPH in the final days of WWII. Completely Indigenous design and unprecedented. Only the US (Curtiss) and Germans had something as advanced.

. . . .
Let them make concrete offers that we can analyse item by item.
I think the offer is to come later. First, our military has to find something in Japan that it needs.

By the way, even NASA uses many Japan-made sophisticated parts in its spaceships, Japan has also its own spaceship JAXA shown below:

An update to this story, JAXA Spacecraft Carries Science, Technology to the Space Station, was published on Sept. 23, 2019.

Japan is a country full of high technologies. I have heard a high-ranking Japanese telling that Japan can even outperform some of the American military technologies. But, Japan does not want to break the present status quo and alarm America by doing so.

A Japanese company (probably XEROX) built a copy machine so sophisticated that just by watching it was not possible to differentiate between the real $100 note and its copy. So, the GoJ ordered the copy machine's capability to be downed to 70% of the original.

Present day Japan wants a cordial relationship with the West.

Japan produces weapons that only Japan could afford. Seriously, it's amusing to me that Japan thinks it can be competitive in the international market with it's very high costs and second tier capabilities.

Expensive? Yes.

But by no means "2nd Tier".
