Japanese parliament member Hiroshi Yamada on Wednesday said the Japan government would set up a bronze sculpture of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tokyo by 2020 as it gives special importance to establish bilateral relations with Bangladesh.
‘As part of this, initiatives have been taken to set up a bronze sculpture in Tokyo marking the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020,’ he said this while paying a courtesy call on state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid at his ministry office here.
Referring to Japan’s close monitoring of all the activities of Matarbari Power Plant, Yamada expressed his hope that the friendship between the two countries would be strengthened further with cooperation in energy sector.
Welcoming Japan’s parliament member in Bangladesh, Nasrul said Japan has already enriched the power sector of Bangladesh by preparing the master plan of power system.
‘Bangladesh is getting the highest support from Japan and trade volume is around USD 900 million. Bangladesh has more scope to do with Japan for Bangladesh’s power and energy sectors,’ he said.
Nasrul said, ‘If representatives of the two countries sit together and discuss they will find further scope for cooperation in the sector.’
Among others, power secretary Ahmed Kaikaus, energy and mineral resources secretary Abu Hena Mohammad Rahmatul Munim, chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board Khaled Mahmood and Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Hiroyasho Izumi were present.
