Japan stealth jet prototype set to fly in 2014

Why does all Japanese military hardware remind me of Robotech/Macross.. or perhaps some of those kids ace combat type aircraft
Because Ace Combat is a Japanese game!

And then what??Bomb the US again?Do you think the US navy wants to move its Pacific fleet?
Actually US have been pressing Japan to gear up and throw out the article 9 since the 80s. Japan avoided it by putting the burden of defense on US while they grew economically. As a concession they pledged monitory support to US military adventures in the form of human development aid in Iraq & AF and also in the 1st gulf war. The US bases and soldiers in Japan are financed by Japanese gov. Infact US did allow Japan the right to reprocess spent fuel and under a agreement in 86 & as per experts Japan may be able to go for nukes without much legal repercussions. While US allies such a S.korea doesn't have such privileges. US wants a militarily stronger Japan under their wing.

That is what I am scared of....A militarily strong Japan may not act as England and work with the US.They may have other ambitions!

i dont think the US should be scared of a militarily strong japan(or specifically its ambitions as you say). it will not be able to pose a threat like it once did during ww2 to the americans because this time south korea is strong too and a rising china is eclipsing both japan and korea. japan ambitions arnt going to see it overrun much of east asia this time, in other words its chance already came and gone. the only major problem a un-hindered, militarily strong japan would cause for the americans is the de-stablizing effect it will have on asia especially regarding russia, china, and s korea which will respond to any japanese build up. and the us already has its hands full just dealing with the effects and a rising china. from the view of japans neighbors, of course, a militarily freed japan that has yet to acknoledge its past fully is damn near unacceptable, at the very minimuim it will cause major military build ups that would other wise not occur.

For some reason it doesn't look very impressive. Plus 2014 is too early for it to fly. 2017 I think is the earliest that it can fly. Japan is better off locally manufacturing F-35A at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Japan is under US military occupation in reality. All its military hardware come from US via Pentagon approval. What Japan needs is to launch a struggle for independence.

F-2, basically an F-16, took 8 years between start of development and first flight from 1987 to 1995. F-3 is a lot more complex, and F-35A is far from being operational. F-3 won't fly till 2017 at the earliest, realistically 2020 or later.

Mitsubishi F-2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

J-20 operational by 2017. I don't see any point for F-3, considering F-35A won't be operational till 2017 at the earliest.
